Job Posting DescriptionThe Orthopedic Tech is responsible for the following:Applies immobilization materials and devices to patients on designated unit/service according to physician and/or nursing orders and specifications.Prepares, applies, and removes casts, sets up traction equipment, and performs other related treatment modalities.Evaluates and adjusts sizes, materials, and/or equipment settings as necessary to meet specific patient needs and treatment objectives.Explains procedures and provides instruction on care and use of immobilization supplies and equipment to patients, families, and/or caregivers.Establishes supportive relationships with patients and families, identifying specific needs and incorporating into patient care as appropriate.Maintains equipment and supply inventory within assigned work area.Performs routine equipment cleaning and maintenance and reports items in need of repair.Orders and restocks standard supplies according to established par levels.Assists supervisor in monitoring expenses and compiling related information for budget preparation.Monitors and maintains daily operations of assigned work area.Monitors work volume and patient flow, organizing and prioritizing workload to meet established schedules and patient care requirements.Maintains communication with physicians, nursing staff, and other health care providers in order to determine daily priorities, resolve problems, and discuss and review specific patient treatments and other related matters.Performs patient care activities related to specific needs of assigned unit/service.Maintains knowledge of current occupational methods, practices, and techniques through participation in professional organizations and attendance at in-service and continuing education programs.Participates in orientation of new staff and provides instruction on patient immobilization issues and techniques as requested.Maintains safety of work environment.The Orthopedic Tech must have the following:6 months experience in a medical field/environment or as a military medic.
