Description

General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States. It is owned by Lightstone Generation LLC, a 50-50 joint venture of The Blackstone Group L.P. and ArcLight Capital Partners.

The Environmental Air Specialist specializes in environmental compliance with Air Quality Programs at a coal-fired power plant and oversees implementation and management of environmental regulatory and permit requirements as well as compliance documentation obligations. Provides oversight and maintenance of multi-media environmental programs to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and Corporate Policies. This includes providing required Environmental training and self-assessments.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs oversight and compliance for the implementation of all necessary federal and state environmental permit requirements, including the development and preparation of reports to Federal and State regulatory agencies and implementing procedures, guidance, and aids to facilitate compliance.
  • Develop, implement, and complete improvement plans to support initiatives to reach top performance in environmental areas.
  • Participate in or lead accident/incident investigations, environmental audits, regulatory inspections, and other components of the facility environmental program.
  • Develop, prepare, submit, and maintain regulatory required reports to Federal and State regulatory agencies.
  • Must be able to work varying hours to support station evolutions.
  • This position will require approximately 10% travel.
Requirements

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field, or equivalent experience, as indicated by grade level below.
  • Knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations. Awareness of applicable federal, state, and local safety and fire protection requirements.
  • Proficiency in using a personal computer and related software (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must possess a valid US driver's license with a safe and satisfactory driver history.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience
Required Competencies:
  • A comprehensive understanding of OH State and Federal environmental regulations and policies relevant to the operations of a coal-fired power plant.
  • Experience with Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) and Data Acquisition and Handling Systems (DAHS)
  • Familiarity in dealing with state and federal environmental regulators.
  • Experience with managing projects and contractors.
  • Ability to deal with multiple deadlines and critical deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and organize teams.
  • Program development and training experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and computer skills. Good public speaking and presentation skills; ability to influence without authority.
Desired Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Experience effectively leading teams and managing people.
  • Familiarity with mercury and opacity monitoring regulations
  • Advanced understanding of coal-fired power plant pollution control systems, including flue gas desulfurization, selective catalytic reduction, and electrostatic precipitators
  • Training in Environmental Compliance or management; CHMM or environmental/engineering professional certification (EIT or PE)
  • Previous work experience in a power plant setting
  • Experience with web-based document management information software such as SharePoint.
