A Medical/Cardiac ICU in the healthcare industry is seeking a highly professional and responsible candidate for the position of a Per Diem Registered Nurse.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to all assigned patients regardless of location within the facility. They will consistently follow clinical specialty guidelines and serve as positive role models to other staff members to promote safe patient care policies and maintain adherence to organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

The minimum work requirement for this position is two shifts per schedule. As this is a per diem position, one weekend shift per schedule and one summer and one winter holiday are required. Please note that this position does not qualify for out of area float pay.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required.
  • Comply with Hospitals, Nursing division, and departmental policies.
  • Work with the healthcare team to execute and document individualized care plans and discharge planning while incorporating age-specific considerations and patient/family teaching.
  • Assist with special tests and procedures and ensure proper consent has been obtained.
  • Contribute to the preceptor training program and assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities.
  • Assist with or institute emergency measures in case of sudden adverse developments in patients.
  • Ensure that patient medical records contain appropriate information.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and triage calls following departmental protocol.
  • Administer medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights, document and communicate clinical findings.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in line with Hospitals standards.
  • Enhance professional growth and development.
  • Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable.
  • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk.
  • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner.
  • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they do not understand or may 'not seem right.'

Qualifications:

  • Program Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • RN currently licensed in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM.
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days.
  • At least 1 year of directly related experience.

Physical Conditions:

  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires working with chemicals and biohazardous materials that require Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
