69234BRAuto req ID:69234BRDepartment:34698 - DK Lab Clinical Job Description:Receives written, or on occasion, oral requests from physicians (or appropriate designee) for clinical laboratory testing; Receives specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, and bodily fluids according to laboratory policy and procedure, making sure that all specimens are identified, logged, and labeled correctly; Performs clinical laboratory analysis on patient specimens using automated, semi-automated, or manual testing procedures according to laboratory policy and procedure; Assures that outgoing lab reports are properly completed, charged, and returned to the appropriate patient care areas in a timely manner; Prepares reagents, quality control materials, staining solutions, and microscopic slides as necessary; Maintains adequate records of all patient, quality control, and calibration/linearity testing consistent with established laboratory policy and procedure, and tabulates raw data for statistical analysis; Performs and records daily quality control, temperature checks, and instrument checks initiating remediation when necessary (i.e. when a QC result, or instrument check falls outside acceptable limits);Performs and documents preventive maintenance on all laboratory analyzers as required, making certain that all equipment is in good working condition; May instruct or check the work of other medical technologists as required; Has working knowledge of the laboratory information system (LIS) and hospital information system (HIS), including but not limited to, ordering, chart printing, patient processing, and test charging; The medical technologist is required to follow any other instructions, and to perform any additional duties as requested by the laboratory manager required to promote the proper functioning of the laboratory; May assume some duties of the Laboratory Manager in his/her absence; Consults with the laboratory manager concerning abnormal QC, patient results, instrument malfunctions, or laboratory related problems; Demonstrates satisfactory performance in all areas of the clinical laboratory by ensuring completion of the lab’s competency assessment program; Performs venipuncture and/or capillary draws utilizing appropriate infection control and safety guidelines at all times.Location:Brooks Memorial Hospital Recruiter:Vanessa BorowiakTitle:Medical Laboratory TechnologistMinimum or Preferred Qualifications:Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology and a New York State license to practice Medical Technology. One (1) year in a clinical laboratory setting. Basic Life Support (BLS) 90 days from hire or transfer required.
