Responsibilities:

This is responsible technical work performing diagnostic PET/CT scanning and radiation oncology PET/CT simulation procedures as prescribed by a physician; an employee in a position allocated to this classification is responsible for providing competent patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations; work is performed under the direct supervision of a higher level position and is reviewed for compliance to established standards and procedures. Provides competent patient care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient populations; performs diagnostic PET/CT scanning and radiation oncology PET/CT simulation procedures as prescribed by a physician; maintains patient markings to enhance treatment reproducibility; maintains daily schedule and prioritizes as necessary; assists in the production of customized treatment immobilization devices utilized for daily radiation treatments; maintains and monitors the functioning of the PET/CT scanner; reports PET/CT equipment malfunctions to Physicist and/or Service Engineer; assists in the development of PET/CT related policies and procedures; assists in the training and/or orientation of other staff in the use of PET/CT equipment; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning, and transferring patients; communicates to patients and families procedures to be performed and procedures to follow if an emergency arises during treatment; prepares room and equipment to meet specific treatment requirement of each patient; observes radiation safety measures; responds to overhead pages; maintains accurate and complete records; performs routine isotope ordering in accordance with departmental procedures; accurately records the administration of isotope dosage(s) given during all PET/CT scan procedures; utilizes a PC to access medical records and to capture accurate charges; participates in departmental quality assurance programs; adheres to infection control and safety standards; participates in departmental in-service training; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in radiologic technology, two years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and/or PET/CT Technologist and certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) as a Radiologic Technologist; or high school diploma or equivalent, completion of an approved nuclear medicine training program and certification with the Nuclear Medical Technologist Certification Board as a Nuclear Medical Technologist. Nuclear Medicine and/or PET/CT experience is highly preferred.
