Occupational Therapist

Overview:

Organize and conduct occupational therapy programs to facilitate rehabilitation. Direct client participation in selected tasks to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance. Facilitate the learning of those skills and functions essential for adaptation of productivity in order to diminish or correct pathology.

Member and partner of the patient care delivery team. Demonstrate a strong commitment to the philosophy and goals of the mission of Hebrew SeniorLife and recognize patient dignity and choice in aspects of daily life. Strive to make every encounter with patients/families into a positive and meaningful experience and opportunity, while providing safe and efficient quality of care. • Administer diagnostic testing procedures to assess the extent of patients impairments and the prognosis for improvement.
• Establish a plan of care to address identified impairments. Set objective and measurable short and long term treatment goals.
• Use evidence-based treatment methods, continuously assessing patients response and modifying/progressing treatments accordingly.
• Provide objective, precise, and timely documentation of patient care, patient/family education, and information regarding units of service.
• Direct and supervise supportive personnel in delegated tasks. Assess competence of supportive personnel to perform assigned tasks.
• Strive to achieve the patients optimal outcome

• Evaluate clients, develop appropriate treatment goals and methods, implement the occupational therapy treatment plan, and complete all related documentation and record keeping regarding these services. This includes application of therapeutic techniques in areas such as cognitive skills, muscle strength, coordination, endurance, mobility, perceptual abilities, sensory awareness, sitting and standing tolerance, balance, and activities of daily living, joint protection, work simplification, orientation, and psychological functioning.
• Design and fit adaptive devices and train client in the use of adaptive devices including splints and orthotics.
• Select physical agent modalities suited to the individuals needs, physical capacity, mobility activities and diagnosis.
• Select appropriate activities suited to the individuals physical and mental capacity, intelligence level and interests.
• Consult with other members of the rehabilitation team to select the most appropriate activity program consistent with the needs and capabilities of each client.
• Instruct client in the skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate client progress, attitudes, and behavior as related to rehabilitative potential.
• Customize treatment programs to meet the needs of individual client.
• Actively contribute to client care, conferences and other related meetings.
• Supervise supportive personnel in accordance with state and professional standards.
• Conduct training programs and participate in training medical, nursing and other personnel in occupational therapy techniques and objectives.
• Ensure that clients and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere, which recognizes the individuals needs and rights.
• Rotate and flex according to staffing needs in HSL Therapy Programs as needed
• Adhere to established HSL and departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
• Exemplify professionalism and exhibit values, which contribute to the achievement of the mission of Hebrew SeniorLife.
• Demonstrates proficiency with documentation in the electronic medical record
• Maintains confidentiality of patient and information.
• Participates in quality improvement initiatives
