We currently have an opportunity for a Risk Adjustment Coder for our Kendall location.
All the relevant skills, qualifications and experience that a successful applicant will need are listed in the following description.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Risk Adjustment Coder to join our dynamic team. As a Risk Adjustment Coder, you will be responsible for accurately coding and documenting medical records to ensure that our organization receives appropriate reimbursement for services rendered. You will closely collaborate with healthcare providers, coding auditors, and billing teams to ensure compliance with coding guidelines and successfully identify and document all relevant diagnoses for risk adjustment purposes. The ideal candidate must possess strong analytical skills, a comprehensive understanding of coding guidelines, and a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of accuracy and efficiency in their work.
Responsibilities:
1. Review and analyze medical records, including clinical documentation, lab results, and treatment plans, to identify and document all relevant diagnoses for risk adjustment purposes.
2. Accurately code diagnoses using ICD-10-CM and other coding systems as applicable, ensuring adherence to official coding guidelines and best practices.
3. Collaborate with healthcare providers, coding auditors, and billing teams to resolve any coding discrepancies or documentation issues.
4. Stay updated on industry coding regulations, guidelines, and changes to ensure compliance with all applicable standards.
5. Conduct regular audits of coding practices and documentation to identify areas for improvement and provide education and training to clinicians and coding staff when needed.
6. Develop and implement coding policies and procedures to enhance coding accuracy and efficiency.
7. Maintain a high level of productivity and accuracy while meeting established coding and documentation targets.
8. Respond to coding-related inquiries and assist in resolving any coding-related denials or audits.
9. Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
10. Collaborate with other departments to improve overall coding and reimbursement processes.
Experience/Qualifications
1. Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential or other relevant coding certification is required.
2. Minimum Two (2) years prior medical coding experience.
3. In-depth knowledge of ICD-10-CM coding guidelines and coding systems, as well as a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
4. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail to accurately identify, code, and document diagnoses.
5. Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with healthcare providers, coding auditors, and billing teams.
7. Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
8. A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development to stay updated on coding regulations and best practices.
9. Knowledge of risk adjustment models and CMS-HCCs is highly desirable.
10. Understanding of healthcare revenue cycle processes and reimbursement methodologies is a plus.
