POSITION SUMMARYPerforms (covers bench assignments as needed) and evaluates high complexity tests while providing technicaldirection and guidance to laboratory employees as needed.JOB FUNCTIONSEssential FunctionsEnsures quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and thatparameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained throughout the entire testing processthrough pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phasesIn collaboration with Manager, ensures up-to-date and well-developed policies and procedures are in compliancewith quality and regulatory standards. Conducts scheduled monitoring and audits to regularly review andevaluate regulatory compliance gaps and deviations. Escalates any gaps to medical and CLIA directors in timelyfashion with suggestions of process improvement to avoid future gaps.Monitors and improves compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items. Maintains knowledge ofrelevant checklists through active participation in inspection processParticipates (or guides) in assay validation design and write upsAssist in development and implementation of workflows while ensuring that employees understand theirresponsibility of tasks.Engages in continuous process and service improvement. Designs recommendations to improve operationalefficiency and accuracy of results while maintaining laboratory productivity. Monitors workload and identifiescapacity constraints and executes plans to smooth out variations.Assists with laboratory support functions (i.e. supply inventory and ordering, alternate suppliers)Organizes proficiency testing and competency assessments.Coordinates departmental education programsPrepares work schedulesOther duties as assigned.Required for All JobsPerforms other duties as assigned.Complies with all policies and standards.For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for ourpatients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to addressappropriate use of PHI in the workplace.Qualifications:EducationBachelor's Degree in a biological or chemical science, or education, certification Required andExperience necessary to qualify as a General Supervisor under CLIA '88 personnel requirements. RequiredWork Experience2+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinicaldisciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular,Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc.RequiredKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of testing procedures and quality standards.
