What makes an AFFAssistant General Counsel – U.S. Employment and Intellectual Property Law: The Assistant General Counsel – U.S. Employment and Intellectual Property role functions as an integral part of the Legal team, supporting all FirstCash U.S. subsidiaries. The person who fills this role will play an integral role in FirstCash’s by counseling the company’s leaders on employment, intellectual property, and immigration matters.The Assistant General Counsel must be flexible, a good multi-tasker, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple issues across different practice areas, including employment, corporate, transactional, and intellectual property matters. The ideal candidate will have substantive experience (i) advising on a wide range of U.S. employment law issues; (ii) responding to employment-related legal claims; (iii) advising on immigration laws; (iv) providing intellectual property advice; and (v) managing a company’s intellectual property portfolio. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively advise and partner with Human Resources, Operations, Finance & Accounting, Tax, IT, and Compliance to support the company’s initiatives.This position is office-based at the company’s headquarters in Fort Worth and reports to the company’s Associate General Counsel. Negotiate and draft employment-related documents such as employee arbitration agreements, offer letters, confidentiality agreements, restrictive covenants, and separation agreements. Develop, draft, review, update, maintain, and provide guidance on the company’s U.S. Employee Handbook and other employment-related policies and procedures in partnership with Human Resources. Work cross-functionally with internal business partners and as part of an integrated legal team to support the company's initiatives, providing legal, business-focused solutions. Draft and develop strategy for responses to employment-related complaints filed with U.S. federal, state, and local government agencies and other employment-related pre-litigation matters. Lead defense efforts on all potential, threatened, and pending employment litigation matters in the U.S. Advise on, and lead investigations of, employment-related complaints in the U.S. Effectively communicate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including Human Resources, Operations, Finance & Accounting, Tax, IT, and Compliance. Provide general intellectual property advice and counseling to stakeholders. Manage the company’s intellectual property portfolio for all U.S. subsidiaries, including filing trademark applications and renewals. Review and provide guidance on the company’s U.S. employment-related training, communications, and other operational materials. Work closely with the Human Resources team to problem-solve employment matters. Conduct legal research and analysis of complex legal issues. Direct, manage, and develop strategy for respective legal matters. Manage outside counsel fees and costs to maintain efficiency. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree. Accredited law degree and licensure in at least Texas. At least 5 years of relevant experience working in a law firm or corporate law department. Verifiable knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and guidance. Able to work as part of an integrated team. Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct. Commitment to work on-site in Fort Worth office 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Bonus Skills: Undergraduate and law degrees with strong academic achievement from nationally recognized institutions. In-house experience in a corporate law department. Verifiable knowledge of federal immigration and visa sponsorship laws, regulations, and guidance. Verifiable knowledge of state restrictive covenant laws. Proven ability to effectively influence, collaborate, and build partnerships and trusted advisor relationships with business partners and legal team members at all levels. Proven ability to work autonomously, coordinate and project manage with multiple stakeholders, and drive towards deadlines with minimal oversight. The competence to think like a business executive and facilitate management objectives, yet the drive and talent to provide objective and independent assessments and advice and serve as a “hands-on” lawyer. A proactive, vigorous, and enthusiastic approach to all tasks, great or small. The ability to handle multiple concurrent projects and drive resolution (or escalation) of significant issues, many involving time pressured situations. Excellent analytical, communication, administrative, and project management skills. Strong attention to detail. Substantial experience using the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
