Cardiac Rehab Registered Nurse

The Cardiac Rehab Registered Nurse plans, implements and evaluates patient educational needs in the cardiovascular inpatient population. This typically includes post-operative CABG, pre & post-catheterization and other cardiac related conditions. The Registered Nurse also assumes basic teaching and leadership responsibilities, remaining calm and intervening in emergency situations in a professional, competent and appropriate manner. The candidate must participate in department committees, assist with statistical tracking, and Performance Improvement activities, while needing minimal supervision. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assess the cardiovascular inpatient population to provide educational plans according to AACVPR guidelines.
  • Identify individual risk factors associated with cardiac and pulmonary disease and assist with risk stratification.
  • Develop individualized educational plans based on patient's goals and expectations and adjust/reevaluate goals to meet the patient's needs.
  • Review patient history and other medical record to develop a plan of care that will include behavior modification through activity and diet intervention.
  • Actively participate in the patient education and community based programs by organizing classes, communicating with speakers and participants as well as providing actual classroom instruction.
  • Understand the legal/regulatory requirement related to the release of information. Able to use the information systems pertinent to the job.

Qualified candidates should be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Florida and possess one year of previous experience on a cardiology related patient care unit. Critical care experience is preferred. Extensive knowledge of cardiac disease, anatomy and physiology, risk stratification, exercise physiology and diet and nutrition are essential. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced Life Support (ALS) from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association certification is recommended when working in an outpatient setting. Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows.
