Warehouse Materials Handler

Position Title: Warehouse Materials Handler
Department/Section: Warehouse / Distribution Services
Supervisor: Director of Materials and Contract Management

Hourly Rate: $19.50 - $20.25/hour (depending on experience)
Grade: 51
Schedule: 8 hours per day/40 hours/week; Monday - Friday; 12 month calendar; Benefits offered; Arizona State Retirement System eligible

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS
Duties of this position include: Warehouse, Property Relocation, Postal Services, and Shipping and Receiving. These tasks include, but are not limited to: responsible operation of warehouse equipment; transferring equipment, furniture, and other assets throughout the District; picking up and distributing District mail; receiving and verifying products and quantities from suppliers, and performing on-line entries to the computerized financial system. This is a very physical job. Individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, with or without reasonable accommodation, as defined in the American with Disability Act. Must have the ability to lift 50lbs. and the physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, turn reach, lift, punch, pull, crawl, and climb stairs/ladders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Basic Skills
  2. Performs strenuous activities such as loading 50 lb. boxes on a truck or pallet.
  3. Performs work within specific time frames and be detailed oriented.
  4. Works both independently and as part of a team.
  5. Assesses situations and make decisions in the field when a supervisor is not available.
  6. Is self-motivated.
  7. Is well-organized with a demonstrated ability to multi-task.
  8. Has excellent customer service skills.
  9. Attends all mandatory trainings as required.
  10. Has valid Arizona driver's license.
  11. Drives department vehicles to include large delivery box truck, large and medium sized vans.
  12. NOTE: This is a very physical job.
Communication Skills
  1. Maintains rapport and composure with faculty, staff, students, vendors, and the general public.
  2. Is able to read, analyze, and interpret written documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  3. Is able to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints.
  4. Has basic computer skills.
Warehouse
  1. Operates material and handling equipment in a proper and safe manner, such as: handcarts, pallet jacks and forklift.
  2. Has a forklift certification or the willingness to obtain such certification.
  3. Regularly tasked for snow removal. Operates appropriate equipment in a safe manner for the purpose of snow removal; to include shovels, snow blower and snow plow.
  4. Performs safety inspection of vehicles and equipment; adds fuels and fluids as needed.
  5. Schedules vehicle maintenance with Transportation Department when vehicles due for service or repairs.
  6. Maintains mailroom, warehouse, parking lot, and outside storage areas.
Property Relocation
  1. Manages Warehouse Requests in management software regarding the movement and relocation of District furniture, equipment, records, books, and other miscellaneous items.
  2. Coordinates with schools and other departments on deliveries that may be difficult to handle.
  3. Assembles or disassembles office furniture and equipment for District transfer.
  4. Assists Facilities Maintenance Department staff when required.
Postal Services
  1. Picks up mail daily from various District sites, sorts and distributes mail to its final destination.
  2. Operates mailing/postage machine, which includes periodic loading of postage meter.
  3. Makes daily deliveries to U.S. Post Office.
  4. Has knowledge of current postal regulations and practices, to include registered and bulk mailing.
Shipping and Receiving
  1. Verifies products and quantities received from suppliers and compares to those listed on purchase orders and packing slips.
  2. Contacts vendor on discrepancies and/or damage, if needed.
  3. Enters receiving and other data in District financial software.
  4. Affixes and records fixed-asset tags on "capital" items or other qualified equipment or products.
  5. Distributes received orders to the end-users in the appropriate District Stores location.
  6. Coordinates with schools and other departments on deliveries that may be difficult to handle.
  7. Prepares boxes and packages for shipment by UPS, FedEx or other carriers.


Other Duties as Assigned
  • May be tasked with annual fixed asset inventory.
  • May be asked to perform reasonable duties other than those listed above.
Preferred Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One-year experience in warehouse operations or similar environment
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills
  • Experience driving a variety of large delivery vehicles
