Job Description

  1. Clinical Practice and Care Management
    1. Serves as the case manager for assigned patients. Coordinates the interdisciplinary assessment process.
    2. Provides genetic counseling services to individuals and families according to the guidelines set forth by the department
    3. Follows established practice guidelines with regards to work and patient scheduling and demonstrates flexibility in scheduling to meet practice and patient needs.
  2. Documentation
    1. Gathers appropriate patient family history and medical records
    2. Completes documentation of all patient and caregiver interactions.
    3. Follows policies and procedures regarding evaluations, chart documentation, and follow-up coordination, ensures appropriate and efficient completion of authorization to provide or receive information.
  3. Education/Research
    1. Providing research support for both short- and long-term research projects
    2. Execute preliminary research data gathering through use of all available resources including the use of contacts throughout genetic community to coordinate/compile research
    3. Prepare and give resident and student lectures
    4. Attend health seminars and events for patient education
  4. Professional Development
    1. Identifies own learning needs based on self-evaluation and the progress made from the previous year's goals.
    2. Accountable for all documentation and completion of all required continuing education and competencies relevant to area of practice as defined by clinical management.
    3. Ensures improvements in practice settings by assuming responsibility for self-development in life-long learning.
    4. Develop leadership skills in critical thinking, decision-making, and problem solving.
    5. Participates in community outreach services as an educational resource informing the public about innovative care management programs available to caregivers. Provides high quality professional consultation and in-service education to medical and hospital staff.
    6. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.


Qualifications

Master's Degree in Genetics or Genetic Counseling

Board Eligible American Board of Genetic Counseling

Board certification as a Genetic Counselor by the American Board of Genetic Counseling

Proficient in the English language, verbal and written communications skills, basic computer skills
