The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing, planning, and continually improving the KCC EMT curriculum, ensuring that instruction and student evaluations are in compliance with Oregon Health Authority and state licensure statutes and the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) certification standards. Examples of Duties ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Assist with design and development of course curriculum and training that meets industry standards for EMT ensuring regular revisions in alignment with the approved state-wide curriculum occur as needed. Participate in statewide EMT Consortium meetings. Develop members for and leads the KCC EMT advisory committee.Recruit and participate in the selection of adjunct faculty to teach EMT courses and training. Coordinate an adjunct teaching cadre to deliver EMT training through credit and non-credit courses. Current courses include: EMT 151, 151L, EMT 152, 152L, EMT 169, and as needed: EMT 177, EMT 251, EMT 252, EMTX 703 Emergency Medical Systems - Refresher (this is for CEUs), EMTX 700 EMT Basic, EMTX 701 EMT Intermediate, EMTX 702 Advanced EMT.Assure that adjunct instructors meet Oregon Department of Education, Chapter 581, Division 49: Standards for the Accreditation of EMT Education and Training Programs, and Oregon Health Authority, Chapter 33, Division 265.Assure that each Course Director (Instructor) EMT license, CV, and evidence of CPR instructor status and qualification to instruct EMT courses are retained for each instructor prior to teaching.Submit course rosters and a Notice of Course Completion to passing students as required. Assure students meet the standards for screenings, vaccination and training per Oregon Health Authority policies for healthcare students. Retain records for students. Assure other required records for students are retained in student files (task books, clinical skills, licensing/certification exam results, etc.)Maintains course rosters and ensures program compliance with Oregon statutes and administrative rules promulgated by the Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division, EMS & Trauma Systems to secure course approvals.Coordinates and arranges clinical rotations, field internships, and ride-alongs.Assure that course specific task books are issued to students and that instructors signify successful completion of job performance requirements (JPR) as appropriate. Periodically monitor course instruction to provide for quality assurance. In consultation with course instructors, review and select appropriate textbooks for each course and submit to bookstore for ordering. Assure that appropriate equipment and training aids are available on site for training. Recommend acquisition of needed supplies, equipment and training aids to Dean or Director. Maintain proper inventory, storage and maintenance of EMT equipment in a training ready state. Coordinate with agency partners to use specialized facilities and equipment for training per established agreements. Develop new partnerships and assure affiliation agreements are in place and current prior to placing students in other organizations for ride a log and clinical experiences.Coordinate required communication and course approvals with the Oregon Health Authority, Public Health Division, EMS Education Coordinator, EMS and Trauma Systems Program and NREMT.Coordinates the State of Oregon EMS written, and practical exams held at KCC. Designs and sets up assessment centers. Coordinates instructor coverage. Coordinates with State-approved proctors.Provides support to outlying EMS classes with regular and scheduled visitation and participation when necessary. Provides coordination between outlying classes and OHA authority. Coordinates with State practical exam and national registry testing.Ensures outlying, community-based EMS classes (under KCC's approved EMT program) are delivered with consistent curricula standards.Participate in program planning and review.Work with KCC Community Education to broaden KCC's EMT training to meet maintenance re-certification needs of the regional EMT service community. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE Knowledge of EMT subject matter being taught for in-field and classroom/lab setting. Computer applications for communication and learning, including, but not limited to, word processing, the Internet, multi-media presentations, spreadsheets and database management, curriculum development. Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Must possess excellent leadership, customer service, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Ability to function efficiently in a stressful work environment. Must be able to hear and speak well enough to communicate with students, faculty, and staff face to face and via the telephone. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCERecommended: Bachelor's or AA degree in EMT or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2 years of experience working in the EMT field. Oregon recognized instructor certifications at or above the EMT level being taught required (if fulfilling course director responsibilities). Prior teaching or training experience is preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS This is a part time (hourly) position that requires flexibility in work hours to meet the demands of variable class scheduling. The incumbent can expect to work on average approximately 10-15 hours, but not more than 20 hours, per week commensurate with each term's demands. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is primarily working indoors in an office or lab/classroom environment or doing outdoor lab exercises on/around the ambulance and occasionally off-campus environments. The noise level in the work environment is typical to most lab/classroom environments. Other background noises and lighting conditions vary. The incumbent must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time, as well as to move about the campus.
