Clinical Responsibilities

Ensures all actions, job performance, personal conduct, and communications represent the organization in a highly professional manner.
Examines and provides direct patient care concerning dental/oral conditions; provides oversight in preventative care and develops treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, and professional practice guidelines; refers individuals for specialty treatment as indicated.
Advises patients, parents, or guardians on diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention; provides health and wellness advice to patients/families.
Effectively communicates with other health care providers or community resources to provide comprehensive, all-encompassing care.
Educates patients/families and the community about oral health-related disease and prevention and self-management of acute and chronic dental conditions; recommends interventions to modify behaviors associated with health risks.
Prescribes appropriate medications, dosages, routes, and frequencies based on efficacy, safety, and cost as legally authorized; counsels patients/families about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances such as over-the-counter and illicit drugs.
Documents patient/dentist transactions as they occur to reflect an accurate and complete dental record based on the nature of the contact, patient condition, and treatment provided.
Maintains compliance with productivity requirements ensuring timely completion of documentation (within 24 hours of the kept appointment) and thorough and accurate coding of patient visits.
Participates in a multidisciplinary care team, identifies problems, and provides feedback to team members regarding a solution.
Participates in integrating services including primary and pediatric care, behavior health, dental services, and supportive housing; serves as a resource to other providers and staff.
Leads and takes part in oral health performance improvement activities such as quality assurance audits, continuing education, Patient-Centered Medical Home processes, medication administration reviews, and peer reviews.
Participates in meetings/conferences and continuing education and demonstrates a genuine desire to develop strategies for improved clinic operations and high-level patient care.
Ensures state licensure and national certification remain current and valid.
Maintains economical and efficient patient care in a clean and safe environment.
Assures patients' rights are always being maintained.
Assists with the workflow of the clinic as needed.

Administrative Responsibilities

In collaboration with the management team, identifies and assesses new or changing practice needs; analyzes the impact on the practice (including staff, facility, equipment, operating costs, etc.) and initiates actions necessary to accomplish proposed goals.
Facilitates necessary in-service training programs, space redesign, and equipment purchases associated with practice needs/goals; determines agency-wide impact and advises ancillary personnel accordingly.
Develop efficiency-enhancing workflows, oversee implementation, and evaluate employee performance and functional or clinical service processes ensuring consistency with professional standards.
Collaborates with the management team to develop an annual operating and capital budget that includes medical supplies, services, pharmaceuticals, staffing, and grants; identifies and analyzes financial impact (return on investment) of new or revised services.
Monitors expenditure levels and takes action to ensure consistency with budgetary targets; considers the number of patients served, no-show rates, scheduling patterns, suite utilization, and cost per visit.
Collaborates with the Dental Coordinator for successful front desk and billing practices; identifies opportunities to maximize financial success and growth.
Ensures the continuous flow of communication with the leadership team to enhance the quality of healthcare service to our patients; provides monthly reports concerning issues, program status, initiatives, and progress to the Executive Leadership Team; provides reports for the Chief Executive Officer and Board of Directors as requested.
Supervises practice staff including recruitment and termination, education, clinical competencies, performance evaluation, and expectations. Ensures high standards of performance by proactively addressing performance issues, including coaching and disciplinary conversations, and by feedback provided through the performance appraisal process.
Develop agency policies and programs that comply with the most current accepted professional guidelines to assure FQHC, NCQA, and other regulatory standards; demonstrate compliance with agency and state/federal guidelines.
All other administrative duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience/ Skills

Must possess a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctorate of Medical Dentistry (D.M.D.) Degree
Must be Licensed within the State of New York and be eligible for appropriate credentialing.
Must meet all Continuing Education requirements.
Minimum of 7 years of clinical experience and 5 years of training or practice in special care dentistry.
Must be able to work cooperatively with staff and others involved in the delivery of service to patients.
Knowledge of public health principles and practices; must be comfortable with community outreach.
Administrative, management, and budget development experience
Must maintain confidentiality relating to treatment under HIPAA guidelines.
Must be proficient with Electronic Dental Records.
Familiarity with coding (CDT) and (ICD-10) and determining the level of service
Critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills; must demonstrate an ability to remain calm and perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and in emergencies.

National Health Service Corps Loan Repayment Program

Full-Time Clinical Guidelines

Clinicians must work a minimum of 40 hours per week, for a minimum of 45 weeks of service per year.
At least 32 hours per week must be spent providing direct patient care at the approved service site(s); of the minimum 32 hours spent providing patient care, no more than 8 hours per week may be spent in a teaching capacity.
The remaining 8 hours per week may be spent providing patient care for patients at the approved site(s), providing patient care in alternative settings (e.g., hospitals, nursing homes, shelters) as directed by the approved site(s), or performing clinical-related administrative activities (limited to 8 hours/week); clinical-related administrative activities may not exceed a total of 8 hours per week.

Part-Time Clinical Guidelines

Clinicians must work a minimum of 20 hours per week, for a minimum of 45 weeks of service per year.
At least 16 hours per week must be spent providing direct patient care at the approved service site(s); of the minimum 16 hours spent providing patient care, no more than 4 hours per week may be spent in a teaching capacity.
The remaining 4 hours per week may be spent providing patient care for patients at the approved site(s), providing patient care in alternative settings (e.g., hospitals, nursing homes, shelters) as directed by the approved site(s), or performing clinical-related administrative activities (limited to 4 hours/week); clinical-related administrative activities may not exceed a total of 4 hours per week.

Other Qualifications

Must be available to work any hours scheduled. These include but are not limited to early mornings, evenings, and weekend hours as determined by the organization and our patient population. Hours are subject to change based on need.
