RN First Assist, First Shift, Surgery Department

UC Health is hiring a full-time RN First Assist for the surgery department for the First Shift at West Chester Hospital.

The Surgery Department RN First Assist will support West Chester Hospitals operating room (OR) and Level III Trauma Center, delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs. The major focus is to carry out the functions that will assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. The RNFA practices perioperative nursing and is therefore responsible for independent nursing behaviors of preoperative assessment and postoperative evaluation of care. The intraoperative practice of the RNFA is interdependent with the surgeon.

Unit Details:

  • Management is very hands on when it comes to helping hone your skills.

  • Even though there is an on-call schedule, there are less here than at other UC sites.

  • The RN First Assist is responsible for providing patient care before, during, and after surgery. The primary purpose of this position is to perform tasks which permit the surgeon to complete an efficient and safe operation.

  • The RN First Assist needs to demonstrate knowledge and expertise in a variety of surgical specialties and the initiative to continually expand and refine clinical skills. It is also someone who identifies and responds appropriately to different needs resulting from, unique psychological needs or those associated with religious / cultural norms. Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely.
