Emergency Room Registered Nurse

JOB SUMMARY
Join an independent, locally governed non-profit healthcare system at our Emergency Room in Naples, FL. Our healthcare system is comprised of two hospitals, an alliance of 700+ physicians, and medical facilities in dozens of locations throughout Southwest Florida that offer nationally recognized, quality health care. As a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department, you will independently plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care in patient care situations using standards of care, policy and procedure. You will provide direct nursing care to patients of all types and age groups, assume teaching and leadership responsibilities, and participate in shared decision making, unit committee and quality improvement activities. You need minimal supervision and will serve as a preceptor to new nursing personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop plans that include strategies to attain expected outcomes
- Implement the plan of care interventions and medical plan of care as appropriate
- Coordinate care delivery and employ patient teaching to promote health and safety
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes and practice ethically
- Attain knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice
- Integrate evidence and research findings into practice and contribute to quality nursing practice and shared decision making (SDM)
- Communicate effectively in all areas of practice and demonstrate leadership in the professional practice setting
- Collaborate with patients, families, the inter-professional team, and others in the conduct of nursing practice, utilizing appropriate resources to plan and provide nursing services that are safe, effective, and financially responsible
- Practice in an environmentally safe and healthy manner and foster, participate, and be knowledgeable of the shared decision-making model of the NCH Healthcare System
- Monitor cardiac rhythm interpretation, pulse oximetry, hemodynamic measurements and interpretation
- Maintain Emergency Department specific certifications, BLS, ACLS, and PALS (PALS certification-of Emergency Department assignment)
- Use equipment specific to the Emergency Department in a safe manner, troubleshoot equipment, and participate in the orientation of new nursing personnel
- Be knowledgeable of patient tracking systems and consistently keep the system updated in a timely manner
- Function in a fast paced, high volume environment making rapid critical decisions and assist peers with assignments without prompting and respond to needs in other areas
- Be flexible in rotation of schedules to meet the needs of the department and cooperate with whatever decision is most likely to benefit the team, receptive to new ideas
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as RN in acute care
- At least one year of Emergency or one year of pediatric ICU acute experience required
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Florida
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- ENPC desirable
- TNCC desirable
- BSN preferred
- Required to sign a Fellowship agreement which includes a 2-year employment commitment to remain in Emergency Department in a full-time position after completion of training
- Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
