Description SUMMARY:Under general supervision, perform installations and repairs of plumbing fixtures, pipes and various types of equipment using a variety of hand/power tools.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Identify and control hazardous working conditions and ensure all safety precautions have been taken before proceeding.Read and interpret blueprints and related drawings; perform the appropriate installations and repair procedures to minimize structural weakness.Cut and thread pipes; join pipes using various plumbing materials or soldering.Test for leaks using pressure gauges and leak detectors.Assemble and install plumbing fixtures and pipes of heating, water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.Assemble and install metal and non-metal valves, pipe fittings, pipes using hand and power tools.Repair and maintain plumbing for leaky faucets, burst pipes and clogged drains.Repair plumbing fixtures sinks, commodes, water heaters, garbage disposal units, and grease traps.Maintain inventory of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles as assigned daily, inform supervisor of any known problems immediately and provide documentation during inspection and/or inventory of tools, equipment, and vehicle as required.Follow District safety guidelines, using good safety practices for operating hand and power tools and equipment as need for job completion. Wear safety equipment as assigned, at all times.Maintain accurate records for labor, materials, work order completion, project orders, manufacturer's technical data sheets, material safety data sheets, and other Maintenance records.Report observed maintenance problems that require action of other Maintenance departments.Communicate effectively with principals, department heads, district staff, and all other auxiliary services personnel in a professional manner in all phases necessary to locate, correct, repair, and complete each job or project.Employee may be required to respond to after hour/emergency callouts, be placed on an emergency call out rotation, and flex work hours to accommodate job completions.Comply with District policies and procedures.Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.QualificationsHigh School Diploma or USA equivalencyTexas Journeyman Plumbing LicenseFour (4) to six (6) years of experience in general plumbing installation and repairsAbility to pass an asbestos physical and obtain certification within 90 days after hire dateDemonstrated knowledge of municipal plumbing codesDemonstrated ability to perform responsibilities under general supervisionDemonstrated organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the positionDemonstrated skills in accurate record keeping and computer data base management, including work orders and material procurementDemonstrated ability to complete work orders accuratelyMaintain a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record that meets District standardsMust pass a Dallas ISD random drug test
