Collects, analyzes and interprets geologic data and engineering information to develop reserve and coal quality models upon which mine planning is based.

Job Description:

Essential Duties:
  • Interpret geologic data and provide reserve and coal quality information and assessments.
  • Assist in the preparation of mine plans and permits in compliance with applicable laws.
  • Monitor state and federal drilling permit requirements and protection of reserves.
  • Supervise contractors during geologic drilling and other related projects.
  • Collect and analyze geotechnical data.
  • Maintain geologic files, data and samples.
  • Complete special technical studies as assigned.
  • Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, state and federal regulations, established company policies and procedures, and employment law regulations.
Other Duties:
  • Assist with other teams on various mining-related projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel will be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledgeable in sedimentary and coal geology, geochemistry and hydrology.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCad (Carlson training preferred).
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in a team environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills.


Education, Training and Experience:

Education and/or experience in geology or engineering. Preference given to those with or in pursuit of a four-year college degree in a related field.
