Department: MM Storeroom

Job Title: Material Handler

Reports To: Storeroom Supervisor

Job Summary: Inventories, accounts for stocks and delivers supplies according to the minimum and maximum levels for the units' carts and floor supplies. Receives, inspects, unpacks, labels, stores and issues various medical supplies, instruments, materials, etc.. Assists in maintaining inventory records of items received and issued. Prepares goods for shipping by packing and making transportation arrangements. Performs a variety of support work including but not limited to receiving of stores and general cleaning of storage areas. Performs different support work as assigned such as Hospital Receiving (Loading Dock) and working at Surgicare.

Job Responsibilities:

Inventory Control

  • Must be able to maintain inventory par levels on units throughout the hospital as assigned.
  • Must be able to maintain accurate inventory levels in MM storeroom.

Putting Supplies/Freight Away

  • Must be able to compare items on the packing slips to the actual items on the pallets ensuring product reference numbers are correct along with product counts.
  • Must be able to put products away accurately on the shelves in MM storeroom.
  • Must be able to run an electric pallet jack.

Picking Miscellaneous Orders

  • Must be able to pick orders accurately, ensuring the correct items and correct counts are picked for both on-site and off-site locations.
  • Must know where all of the Departments are located throughout the Hospital.

Ability To Use Meditech

  • Ability to use a handheld scanner to perform inventories on units throughout the Hospital.
  • Ability to download handheld scanner to print out a picklist for the units.
  • Ability to use Meditech to keep accurate inventory levels by being able to Transfer, Adjust, Add and Remove items in the inventories.
  • Ability to process patient charges through Meditech and also run lost charge reports.

Restocking Crash Carts And Trays

  • Must be able to restock Crash Carts and check expiration dates accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to restock Respiratory Trays, Chest Tube Trays, Bone Marrow Trays and Temporary Hemodialysis Trays and check expiration dates accurately and in a timely manner.

Checking Expiration Dates

  • Must be able to check expiration dates accurately on all units as assigned.
  • Must be able to check expiration dates accurately and in a timely manner in Materials Management storeroom as assigned.

Customer Service

  • Employees must answer the storeroom phone in a courteous and timely manner.
  • Employees must answer their pagers in a courteous and timely manner when they receive pages from the units.
  • Employees must be able to help staff members on their units as well as staff members that come to the storeroom that require help.

Sanitation

  • Employees must clean areas as assigned in MM storeroom.
  • Employees must keep the units clean and organized throughout the hospital
  • Employees must cut lids off of boxes in MM storeroom when picking orders. Employees must empty corrugate carts daily as assigned.

Appearance/Preparedness

  • Employees must come to work in uniform and have all the tools they need to perform their daily tasks such as nametag, knife, pen etc..

Covering Areas Under Materials Management

  • Ability to cover units and/or pick orders when staff is depleted.
  • Employees may be called in to fill Crash Carts during off hours.
  • Employees may be called in to stock units during off hours.

Requirements

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Knowledge of inventory control preferred. Knowledge of medical supplies preferred. Knowledge of computers preferred.
  • Licensure: N/A
  • Physical Requirements: Able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to bend, lift, twist and turn. Able to read and understand requisitions.
