Surgical Technician - Per Diem**
**IMPORTANT NOTE: In lieu of benefits due to "per diem" status, 15% will be added to the hourly rate. Per diem employees are offered work on an "as-needed" basis.**

POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs technical skills and assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses and other professionals in the Operating Room.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of a surgical technologist program that is accredited by a national accrediting organization or a successor organization or must have successfully completed a training program for surgical technologist administered by the US Public Health Service, Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard.
One (1) year ORT job experience in major Operating Room may replace OR Technical School requirement.
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or per NRS 449.24185, sec.1.(c) Engaged in the practice of surgical technology in a health care facility before January 1, 2018. Non certified Surgical Technician must maintain 15 CEU hours annually.
BLS required.
Participation in AST encouraged.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care/service appropriate to the age of the patient.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Must show initiative, maturity, and effectiveness in dealing with people.
Appreciation of and desire to be part of a healthcare team.
Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of asepsis and consistently maintains sterile technique.
Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy related to procedure.
Demonstrates knowledge of techniques used by various surgeons for various procedures.
Able to assemble and trouble shoot all equipment as necessary for procedure.
Ensures all necessary equipment is in the room prior to the start of a case.
Able to safely operate all electro-surgical equipment, video equipment, disposable equipment as well as equipment unique to each specialty area, and re-processing equipment.
Updates and re-writes preference cards as indicated. Communicates changes/needs to staff members and Manager of Surgical Services.
Performs all

responsibilities/duties

required to assure that the unique nature of the client is addressed.
Demonstrates knowledge of sterilization and disinfection as evidenced by practice.
Demonstrates an understanding of operating room sanitation and assists in its maintenance.
Picks surgical cases using appropriate surgeon preference cards.
Prepares the OR for surgical cases using appropriate surgeon's preference card
Handles all surgical specimens appropriately.
Accurately communicates with surgical team pertinent information pertaining to implants, medications and specimens.
Monitors for and calls attention to breaks in technique. Communicates to circulator and surgeon breaks in technique.
In conjunction with the circulator conducts accurate sponge, needle and instruments count according to departmental policies.
Performs surgical scrub according to departmental policies and industry standards.
Monitors skin integrity and communicate to circulator.
Trains and assists turnover teams with operating room protocol and procedures for new and existing team members.
