Summary:

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to; performing magnetic resonance imaging on patients utilizing highly technical equipment and administering contrast materials as required. Other functions that may be assigned.

Responsibilities:

(25%)* Prepare scan room and patient for examination.

(25%)* Draw up IV contrast if needed; administer oral contrast if indicated; perform warm-up procedure on equipment; enter patient data and appropriate scan parameters; review patient data to assure proper exam; review previous exams. Interview and screen patients for contraindications prior to having and MRI study; explain the procedure and answer patient questions.

(25%)* Transport patient into exam room, assist patient & position appropriately for exam; determine if allergic to anything; inject appropriate IV contrast; perform scan with attention to appropriate positioning; be alert for need of additional or thinner slices/images. Utilize correct protocols, coils, restraints and other materials when scanning.

(15%)* Assure proper marking with regard to orientation of patient; enter images with keypad with attention to order of image.

(10%)* Prepare records for radiologist and assures that all clinical information is complete; assures that exam images are in correct order; provide additional information as required.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintains patient flow; maintains a patient log; assure that appropriate charges are entered into computer system.

Assure proper equipment operation.

Notify manager of equipment failure; call service provider as required; keeps equipment clean.

Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times toward all employees, physicians, associated staff and MyMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot customers and potential customers.

Provides support to Radiologist during invasive MRI procedure.

Maintains sterile field and needed equipment, i.e., needles and solutions during invasive MRI procedure.

Helps in other areas of department when time permits.

Utilizes appropriate lift equipment on a routine basis and MRI safety.

Demonstrates competency in Infection Prevention and Control Practices and Policies.

All other duties as assigned.

Certifications and Licensures:

Credential:BLS: Basic Life Support
Equivalent Experience: Within 1 month of hire or transfer

Qualification Source: AHA

Credential:ARRT: Reg Radiologic Technologist
Equivalent Experience: Within 2 year of hire or transfer date.

Credential:ARRT MR: ARRT MRI
Equivalent Experience: Within 24 months of hire or transfer

Required Education:

Education: ASSOCIATES DEGREE
Equivalent Experience: Degree in Healthcare Related Field. Knowledge of MRI as normally acquired through completion of an AMA approved radiologic technology program required or the Michigan Radiologic and Sciences Consortium (MiRIS) MRI Program. Two years experience in MRI preferred. MRI registry preferred.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.

Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.

Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.

Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).

Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time. May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.

Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. Must follow MyMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.

Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.

Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling. May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.

Physical Demand Level: Light. Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently (34-66% of the workday) 10 lbs. and or Walk/Stand/Push/Pull of Arm/Leg controls.
