General Purpose *Based out of our Newark, NJ Location Provide relief/backup support for company when drivers are on vacation or other time off. May provide on-call relief, cover partial trips or fill in due to staffing needs. Demonstrate knowledge of multiple delivery routes and possess necessary qualifications and experience to drive class A vehicles per the relief driving assignment. Keep up-to-date knowledge of routes, which may include going on route ride(s) to keep active knowledge. Operate a straight truck, tractor-trailer, or double trailer. Deliver products or assets in a safe and timely manner to customers, warehouses, distributors, etc., according to the delivery route schedule as determined by the supervisor. Demonstrate high standards of customer service. Communicate frequently with peers, supervisors, and others. Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesOperate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules, regulations and policies adhering to all safety practicesDeliver products or assets according to route schedule and customer delivery expectations (e.g., put deliveries inside coolers and walk-ins) in a safe and timely manner. Follow designated routes and schedules unless otherwise directed by supervisory personnelReport delivery delays to management due to road conditions, accidents or breakdownsBased on route design, load and unload product as required at designated stops (2-wheel cart and/or pallet jacket); may include stocking and ordering of product (varies from route to route)Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with customers and report any problems to the driver supervisor or managerEnsure and/or perform proper maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment used (tires, fuel, oil check, etc.) and maintain a clean vehicleComplete all daily paperwork fully and correctly each day. Maintain all log and trip records according to company policy and DOT guidelinesPerform load inventory and document condition of freight before departureAttend all driver workshops and training sessionsUse company supported applications or systems properlyRepresent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individualsThe requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee, but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Other duties may be assigned as requiredEducation and ExperienceHigh School Diploma or equivalent2 or more years of experience driving a tractor trailer, straight truck, or doubles trailer, within the last 5 years preferredMust meet minimum age requirementsMust meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle RecordsMust meet all DOT requirementsCertification and/or License valid Class A CDL; some drivers may be required to have a doubles endorsement; license or operators permit for at least the three years immediately prior to applicationKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of DOT procedures, rules, and requirementsKnowledge in Samsara, routing, and DMSSkill in proficient computer usageAbility to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writingSkills with math for calculating load size and recording accurate volume/weight measurementsAble to contribute to the positive performance behaviors through personal exampleAble to be proactive in seeking solutions, taking appropriate steps to solve problemsAble to work in collaboration effectively and foster good teamworkAble to follow directions and meet deadlinesAble to present options and ideas to current processes or proceduresAble to interpret and apply company policiesAble to adapt and manage to change effectivelyAble to perform task and duties with minimal supervisionAble to take initiative in performing jobGood organization and record keeping skillsAble to be punctualMust be able to read, write, and speak English
