Registered Respiratory Therapist

General Summary:

Conducts cardiological and pulmonary tests and respiratory care modalities for the in-patient and out-patient population. Such tests provide data for use in diagnosing heart and lung diseases using electrocardiograph, treadmill, holter monitor and spirometers. In addition this position is responsible for setting up and operating various oxygen delivery devices, to include ventilator management and respiratory care treatment, evaluation and assessment. Advanced level practitioner. Sign on bonus $5,000.

Essential Job Functions*:

  • Provides all standard respiratory care modalities: oxygen, therapeutic aerosols, bronchodilators, mucolytic, nasal tracheal suctioning, chest physio-therapy, incentive spirometry and breathing exercises, as well as ventilator management according to department procedures and standard respiratory therapy practices.
  • Assists in cardiopulmonary pulmonary resuscitation attempts and intubation in accordance with standard protocols.
  • Obtains accurate samples for blood gas analysis.
  • Handles blood samples in accordance with infection control policy and assures that all blood samples are within the Therapist's control. Reports blood gas results to physicians and makes recommendations for changes in therapy where indicated.
  • Responds to Code Blue and Code Blue-pediatric events within the hospital and assists in airway management, ABG's, EKG'S and/or assists in cardiac chest compression.
  • In accordance with equipment and hospital standards, sets up ventilators and performs oxygen administration.
  • Schedules daily in-patients and out-patients for ABG's, EKG's, Stress Tests, HHN's, MDI's and CPT'S.
  • Assists the in-patient or out-patient to better understand their condition, presentation and supportive ways to maintain through patient education.
  • Maintains all appropriate equipment and machinery within the Respiratory
Therapy/Cardiopulmonary Department reporting any abnormalities to the Director of Cardiopulmonary Services.
  • Prepares, copies and files all appropriate tests and other reports in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Changes oxygen tanks and stocks respiratory therapy drawers so that supply levels are always adequate.
  • Knowledge of respiratory care protocols.
  • Adjusts to scheduling changes as necessary in order to meet department/organizational needs.
  • Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
  • Demonstrates hospital's stated mission, vision and values of teamwork, respect and communication with co-workers, patients, families and visitors.
  • Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
  • Meets department customer service standards and strives to enhance the level of customer service provided.
Qualifications:
  • Education
Required: Graduate of American Medical Association approved School

of Respiratory Therapy and successful completion of the

Registry Examination.
  • Work Experience
Required: New grads eligible

Preferred: 1-3 years of respiratory therapy clinical experience.
  • Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: New Hampshire State Board of Registration and Medicine

Respiratory Therapy Licensure.

Maintain BLS

Preferred: ACLS certification
  • Other Skills/Knowledge

Required: Computer literacy; detail-oriented; works well under pressure
