The dispatch center is under the governing authority of the City Council but runs dispatch services as a City/County dispatch. The dispatchers provide communication services for city police, county sheriff and deputies, the Newcastle Volunteer Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, as well as the Osage and Upton, WY Police and Fire Departments. The minimum job qualifications: Basic computer skills to include key boarding No criminal record that would disqualify from certification Age 21 or older Citizen of the U.S. High school diploma/GED Must pass medical and psychological evaluation, background investigation, fingerprint clearance, keyboard testing (40 wpm), and interviews which will proceed after the acceptance of the initial application. Will train in all aspects of dispatching services The position is 24/7 and requires shift work (nights, holidays, and weekends, 8, 10, 12-hour shifts). Preference will be given to P.O.S.T. Certified Tele communicators. The starting salary for Communications Level 1 is $14.07/hour with an increase after completion of the Basic Academy, and another increase after 1 year of successful probation. We offer a step system for raises based on training and education with increases after attainment of advanced and professional state certification.
