Position Summary:

Under the direction and guidance of the Emergency Department Medical Director, and the general supervision of the Emergency Department Nursing Director, the ED Tech II performs the functions as below. The primary responsibility for any individual patient will remain with the assigned RN. The ED Tech II supports and promotes the mission of Conway Medical Center.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Completion of approved training for Paramedic required.
Experience
  • Five (5) years as a practicing hospital Paramedic preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
  • Current license/certification in South Carolina as a Paramedic required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification (BLS) required.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements. *

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Must be competent in the following skills: Point of care competencies (urine dip, glucose monitoring, fecal occult), IV competencies, EKG/defibrillation with arrhythmia recognition, venipuncture competencies,IO insertion/removal, ranger fluid warmer,Bair hugger, therapeutic hypothermia, wound care, burn care, splint application learning.
  • Complete Leadership Development Academy modules, as assigned.
  • Perform standard assessments using basic and complex equipment and identify patient care priorities.
  • Reassess patient status/needs at appropriate intervals and report any changes to appropriate RN or ED treating clinician.
  • Initiate/maintain IV access lines in the ED and perform blood draws and send to lab according to policy.
  • Perform removal and insertion of IV/IO lines.
  • Obtain 12 lead EKG and present to ordering provider.
  • Recognize and report abnormal cardiac rhythms to treating provider.
  • Obtain and evaluate FSBG.
  • Perform wound dressing application.
  • Obtain clean catch urine.
  • Transport patients to other departments or inpatient rooms, including Telemetry.
  • Set up suture sets and conduct splint application.
  • Order entry using RN Symptom-Based Order Guidelines
  • Restocking of supplies as needed.
  • Triage and discharge patients.
  • Document procedures, medications, etc. in electronic medical records and maintain confidentiality.
  • Communicate patient status or needs to RN or ED physician/treating clinician, as needed.
  • Serve as a patient advocate as needed.
  • Monitor department for cleanliness and safety issues and report findings as appropriate.
  • Meet standards of job analysis form
  • Interact positively with members of team, other departments, and services.
  • Respect patient's culture, lifestyle, religion, and age when planning or implementing care.
  • Strive to make patients comfortable and pay attention to patient needs.
  • Perform other duties as trained and credentialed.
  • Greet all patients and their family members when applicable and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Effectively utilize strong organizational skills.
  • Consistently display effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required.
  • Remain calm and professional in all situations.
  • Exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
