Pediatric Rehab Registered Nurse

Our hospital is seeking a passionate and experienced Pediatric Rehab Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Pediatric Rehab Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care to a diverse group of patients ages 21 and younger. This will require working within our nursing process and collaborating with our healthcare team to implement and document individualized care plans that incorporate age-specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching. You will also work towards achieving one of our five Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) levels, based on your Nursing Education and National Certifications, which offer increasing compensation.

In this role, you will work in the CTHI inpatient unit, the only pediatric rehabilitation unit in New Mexico. The CTHI is a specialized unit with a focus on rehabilitation and orthopedics, offering an opportunity to hone your clinical skills in these specialties. You may also occasionally work with neonate, adult and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering safe direct care to an assigned group of patients as required
  • Working within Hospitals, Nursing division, and departmental policies
  • Assisting with special tests and procedures and ensure proper consent has been obtained
  • Participating in orientation, as assigned. May assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
  • Assisting with or instituting emergency measures for sudden, adverse for patients
  • Ensuring that patient medical records contain necessary information and accurately reflect patient care
  • Answering telephones and triaging calls as per departmental policy
  • Administering medication, including IV medication, via the Seven Rights
  • Participating in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
  • Contributing to patient safety by actively participating in patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Identifying and reporting/correcting environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • Encouraging patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Current RN licensure in New Mexico or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • Certificate of completion for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers or Professional Rescuers, or ACLS, or PALS, or TNCC and/or ENPC
  • Nationally certified in area of specialty preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment/supplies as needed
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods of times, reach, bend, squat, and walk around patient rooms and hospital units
