JOB SUMMARY: The position of Auditor Intern is designed to provide students with practical experience in governmental finance primarily within internal audit functions. The internship will expose the student to the integral nature of accountability and transparency functions within county government. The Auditor Intern is required to perform a plethora of bookkeeping, auditing, data entry and other clerical duties. A record (or records) of financial transactions shall be kept in accordance with the policies of the Auditor’s Office. The Auditor Intern shall be responsible for satisfactory performance of the duties set forth in this job description as well as any other assigned duties. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Support select phases of internal audits with researching, testing, documenting, analyzing, and concluding 2. Assist with special projects as necessary 3. Review claims entered for accuracy 4. Tie out reports for mathematical accuracy and reviewing work for grammar, spelling and errors 5. Assist in preparation of presentation materials for the Finance and Budgeting Committee 6. Collaborate with Elected County Auditor, Deputy Auditor, and Staff Auditor 7. Engage directly with a variety of County employees 8. Research the County’s Financial Policy, County Ordinances, and State Statutes independently 9. Proactively seek guidance, clarification and feedback 10. Demonstrate ability to complete work with professional skepticism 11. Arriving timely to work 12. Tracking time by assignment 13. Adhering to the Kane County Personnel Handbook 14. Traveling locally to County government buildings QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Proficient in computer usage and data entry, Microsoft Office (esp. Excel, Outlook and Word), Adobe Acrobat Pro or equivalent programs and internet browsers such as Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. 2. Proficient with functionality of county accounting software and other fiscal systems. EDUCATION: 1. Current enrollment in college is required. 2. Specific coursework in data entry, data analysis, accounting or bookkeeping. SKILLS: 1. Able to read, write and comprehend English correspondence and memos. 2. Able to communicate and present effectively through correspondence, one-on-one or small group discussions, to vendors, clients, employees or other persons required. 3. Strong ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. 4. Strong ability to compute rate, ratio, mean, median, mode and percentages in addition to create and interpret charts and graphs. 5. Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 6. Able to think critically using logic and deductive reasoning to identify the strength and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with various special projects at the request of the County Auditor, Chief Deputy Auditor, or Deputy Auditor.
