Summer Camp Res Counselor

Working independently, exercising good judgment, and discretion in executing and performing the Club Sports Summer Camp duties. Assisting students as needed with questions. Supervise campers, ensuring their safety, travel, punctuality (staying on schedule), development, growth, and general well-being through displaying patience, kindness, enthusiasm, problem-solving skills, and efficient communication. Full understanding of our zero-tolerance for bullying/hazing guidelines and a willingness to take proper action. Willingness to help with camp events such as small groups, games, etc. Ensure knowledge of campers' dietary, allergy, and medical needs prior to engaging in any activities. Ensure the residential/day-time camper is properly checked out at the end of day/camp with a designated sibling, parent, or family friend.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Assigned a group of campers to lead, mentor, and oversee.

2. A residential counselor will be responsible for their assigned 'group' for the entirety of the camp.

3. Duties include leading groups to and from the lacrosse facility, dorms, dining hall, and various activities; ensuring each camper is in their assigned room each night at curfew; leading devotions for their group each morning; helping with practices, and active in organizing activities for their group during designated activities, in the dorms, or "down times".

4. The residential counselors are responsible for their campers, and will track the attendance of day campers, and are responsible for taking care of the campers of their group at all times.

5. The residential counselor will ensure that each of their campers are acting appropriately and following the rules outlined by the camp directors.

Qualifications and Credentials

Education and Experience

High school diploma required. Safe Sport Certified required. Previous experience working a counselor for summer camps preferred. Well-developed communication skills verbally. Ability to be on-time and follow a schedule set by the director.

  • Excellent computer skills.

  • Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
Physical and Sensory Abilities
  • Regularly required to travel to local and campus locations.
  • Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
  • Handle materials, reach overhead, knell or stoop in order to conduct business.
  • Regularly lift 20 or fewer pounds.


Working Conditions

Work Environment

The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is a climate-controlled setting as well as outdoors walking in heat.It is well lit and the noise level is moderate indoors. All weather types to be expected when outside.
