Pharmacy Resident

The Pharmacy Resident is a pharmacist participating in an ASHP postgraduate training program and is expected to complete the program requirements including achieving the Competencies, Goals, and Objectives (CAGOs) specific for their postgraduate year one (PGY1) residency in the course of a year. The program is individualized based on residents development plans documented in PharmAcademic. This position requires knowledge of all aspects of pharmacy including the ability to perform as a resource for drugs and pharmacy protocols to other members of the health care team. The hospital pharmacist is primarily responsible for proper supply of medicines; for their secure and proper storage; and for their distribution throughout the hospital. The majority of hospital pharmacists are involved in clinical pharmacy e.g. monitoring prescribed drug therapy in relation to the patient's condition, age, weight and any other relevant parameters for appropriateness with the aim of maximizing benefit to the patient. Hospital pharmacists also participate and contribute to rounds, specialize in inventory management, drug information, aseptic compounding and medication safety.
