Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, performs safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients with established policies, procedures and guidelines set forth by federal, state and local regulations. The Dialysis Technician must understand the scientific principles of dialysis, the process of the dialysis treatment and how to respond to the physical and emotional needs of patients undergoing dialysis treatments. In addition, this position may perform clerical and receptionist duties, transport of patients and other duties based upon NC Board of Nursing guidelines and the direction of the Registered Nurse. High school graduate or GED required. Current listing on the Nurse Aide registry in North Carolina preferred. National Certification in Dialysis (CCHT) through the National Nurses Certification Commission required. Successful completion of BLS. Ability to read and communicate in English. Additional languages preferred. Knowledge of the principles of dialysis. Knowledge of the dialysis process. Knowledge of hemodialysis patient care. Concentration may be frequently broken. Must be flexible and able to prioritize. Minimum of one year hemodialysis experience. Prior hospital/health care experience preferred. Computer training preferred. Medical terminology preferred.
