Responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of material for study and diagnostic interpretation by pathologists. Histology personnel are responsible for performing pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties including tissue processing, routine stains, special stains, immunohistochemical stains, instrument maintenance and problem resolution.
Education:
High School graduate or equivalent.
Two year or four year degree in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or similar field.
Licensure/Certification:
National certification from the HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)
Experience:
One year of experience in a histology laboratory.
Chemistry background and knowledge is preferred.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
Knowledge of basic histology functions.
Able to perform basic histologic tests, including MOHS and Immuniperoxidase.
Ability to work with a high level of accuracy and difficulty.
Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve.
Knowledge of microtome and cryostat.
Ability to exercise independent decision-making.
Ability to adapt to in dealing with change and while under stress.
Ability to demonstrate accuracy, neatness and thoroughness by the quality of work outcomes.
Ability to visually distinguish colors.
