Tom Lab Tech
This position will work with production management and the technical services team to conduct and monitor auditing on grower farms and is also responsible for assisting in the preparation of semen from the Tom farm and accurately recording data in a timely manner.

When working on the Tom Farm, the Lab Tech will:
  • Prepare the syringes for Milkers;
  • Extract specimen from the syringes into flasks and adds extender to extend its life during deliveries;
  • Enter specimen information into the M-Tech Software;
  • Schedule the next day collection process and sets up lab equipment at the end of the day for the following day's workload;
  • Perform any maintenance and QC checks on lab equipment;
  • Complete laundry for the farm;
  • Distribute specimens to the AI crew driver and/or drives to the appropriate locations;
  • Pick up and drop off supplies and inter-office mail/documents to Breeder Division offices as needed;
  • Assist farm labor employees with obtaining throat swabs from Toms for testing.
  • Sanitize and disinfect equipment;
  •  Demonstrate effective time management;
  •  Use various tools and follow protocols to disinfect equipment and facilities;
  • Repair and/or direct the repair of the equipment as needed;
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment;
  • Work well within a flexible/variable schedule with some weekend shifts;
  • Have excellent hand-eye coordination;
  • Follow all company regulations pertaining to bio security, animal welfare and Safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor; 
  • Have good written and verbal communication;
  • Follow all of the company’s rules and regulations for bio security, animal welfare and safety;
  • Work productively in a team environment and be willing to help in any area to get the job done;
  • Successfully work with live animals;
  • Organize and prioritize responsibilities to ensure efficient operations.
  • Perform the duties of the job while constantly moving and using hands while being exposed to dust, cold, humidity, heat, chemicals and fumes.
  • Work an extended work day, if needed.

Requirements:
•High school diploma or equivalent required.
•Prior experience in poultry preferred.
•Proficient reading and writing skills in English are required.
•Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel;
•Bi-lingual Spanish speaking skills a plus.
