Summer Day Camp Counselor

General Summary:

Seeking fun, enthusiastic, energetic and caring individuals to work directly with youth aged 5-10 years in a day camp setting. Monday-Friday, varied shifts between 7:00am - 6:00pm (32-40 hours/week)

Salary:

$17.00/hr.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the safety and well-being of campers, following protocol regarding the handling of behaviors and special needs of all campers.
  • Communicates all pertinent issues affecting activities to supervisors and other counselors.
  • Establishes good rapport with families of campers as well as keeping them informed about any concerns affecting campers.
  • Organizes and maintains daily schedules of activities, such as; swimming, sports, games, arts and crafts, field trips and more.
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • Current First Aid/CPR certifications
  • Universal Precautions Certified within 90 days of hire
  • Prior experience working with youth aged 5-10 years old
  • A valid driver's license, must be insurable by Hyland Hills and willing to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Must want to have a fun-filled and exciting summer working with awesome kids and staff

Working Environment/Physical Activities:
  1. Noise level: moderate to loud
  2. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including summer sun and temperatures.
  3. Work will be in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  4. Occasional travel by automobile is required to reach activity sites away from the Recreation Center
  5. Ability to stand 6-8 hours a day.
  6. Ability to lift 40 lbs.
