POSITION SUMMARYThe Ophthalmic Technician conduct measurements and tests that provides the Physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment. The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for required documentation in compliance with the policies and provide excellent patient services. You MUST be ok with traveling between Bethesda MD and Vienna VA.ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIESTake an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records.Performs lensometry, automated refractometry, slit lamp examination including applanation tonometry, anterior chamber angle assessment and gross external exam, ocular muscle motility and balance testing, assess pupils and confrontation visual fields. Administers diagnostic tests - OCT, automated visual fields, photography, pachymetry, biometryPerforms manifest refractionAdministers topical ophthalmic or oral medications Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.Assists with patient education.Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED). Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline highly preferred.Certificates & LicensesCertified Ophthalmic AssistantExperience: 2-4 years of prior ophthalmic assistant experienceKNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIESAccountability - Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions or work performed.
