Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians needed in Topeka, KS area

We are currently seeking a Full-time permanent position for a Pulmonary and Critical Care physician to join the fast-growing family in Topeka, KS.

Primary Responsibilities:

·Thorough evaluations of patients with pulmonary and critical care conditions, including taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, and interpreting diagnostic tests such as pulmonary function tests, chest X-rays, and CT scans.

·Providing comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, pneumonia, and lung cancer. This may involve prescribing medications, administering oxygen therapy, and coordinating pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

·Providing life-saving interventions and advanced life support to critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs) or emergency departments. This includes managing patients on mechanical ventilation, monitoring hemodynamic status, and treating sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and other critical illnesses.

·Performing various diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, intubation, and insertion of central venous catheters and arterial lines. Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians are also trained in interpreting the results of these procedures.

·Providing patients and their families with education about their conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing their health. This may include discussing smoking cessation, pulmonary rehabilitation, and home oxygen therapy.

·Engaging in clinical research to advance the understanding and treatment of pulmonary and critical care conditions. This may involve conducting clinical trials, publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting at medical conferences. Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians also often participate in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

·Participating in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, optimizing the delivery of care, and ensuring patient safety in pulmonary and critical care settings.

·Responding to emergencies, both within the hospital and in the community, to provide rapid assessment and management of patients with acute respiratory failure, severe exacerbations of chronic respiratory conditions, or other critical illnesses.

Required Qualifications:

·Aspiring Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians must complete a residency program in internal medicine.

·Following completion of internal medicine residency, physicians interested in pursuing a career in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine must undertake additional fellowship training. Provide specialized training in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary diseases, critical care medicine, and advanced procedures such as bronchoscopy and critical care ultrasonography.

·Passing the certification examination administered by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). Board certification demonstrates that a physician has met rigorous knowledge and competency standards in the field.

·Passing the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX)

·Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians are required to participate in continuing medical education activities to maintain their licensure and board certification. This may include attending conferences, completing online courses, participating in journal clubs, and engaging in self-directed learning activities.

·Prior clinical experience in internal medicine, critical care, or pulmonary medicine is highly beneficial for aspiring Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians. This experience may be gained through medical school rotations, residency training, or additional clinical work experience.

·Strong communication, empathy, and interpersonal skills are essential for building rapport with patients, collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams, and providing compassionate care to critically ill patients and their families.

·Adhering to ethical standards and maintaining professionalism in all aspects of patient care, research, and academic activities is paramount for Pulmonary and Critical Care Physicians.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

·Completion of an accredited medical school leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.

·Completion of a residency program in Internal Medicine accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

·Completion of a fellowship program in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine accredited by the ACGME or the AOA. Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellowship training.

·Board certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) is required.

·Registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA

·Must have current unrestricted license to practice as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from the Kansas Medical Board.

·Annual continuing medical education as required by board specialty

·Must be registered and have current DEA

·Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), American Heart Association
