The ideal candidate will have sound knowledge and understanding of applicable laws and regulations, and the ability to make prudent legal decisions. The General Counsel will be a member of the IXL Leadership team, providing counsel and guidance to support the strategic growth and direction of the company. #LI-HYBRIDWHAT YOU'LL BE DOING Directing all aspects of legal affairs at IXL and ensuring business policies and activities, including general corporate, data privacy and security, contracts, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property, employment, litigation and risk managementStaying abreast of changes to law and regulations and advising management about impact and opportunity to the businessLeading the defense of the organization in lawsuits and the prosecution of lawsuits on behalf of the organization against othersEnsuring that all company communications, contracts, documents, filings and press releases undergo a legal reviewProviding guidance and counsel to management on business transactions and initiativesConducting due diligence processes for potential mergers, acquisitions or strategic partnerships. Draft and review legal documents related to transactions, ensuring compliance and mitigating legal risksWHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR J.D. degree from an accredited law schoolAdmittance to the California State Bar Association highly preferredMust have a minimum of 10 years of legal experience gained in mid to large law firms and/or as in-house General Counsel or Associate General Counsel preferably in the education or technology industryOverall broad legal knowledge (corporate law, litigations, labor law, data privacy and security, compliance, M&A, etc.), with expertise in California law a plusIn-depth understanding of how legal issues affect organizationsAbility to develop legal strategy and objectivesHigh degree of professional ethics and integrityExcellent judgment and analytical skillsExcellent interpersonal and communication skillsAbility to anticipate legal issues or risks and to advise accordinglyOur salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The base salary range for this full-time position is $450,000 to $600,000 + equity + benefits. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
