We welcome all healthcare professionals to join our thriving community and contribute to our pursuit for clinical excellence.Position ResponsibilitiesThe Genetic Counselor will work under the supervision of the Director of Genetic Services, contributes to the management of diverse aspects of the service, including the counseling for the genetic disorders, coordination of care for patients, optimization of clinic and operational workflows, and working collaboratively with the team to create a patient centered environment.Obtain and assess family and medical history and counsels patients and/or families in cases of genetic disorders or birth defects.Discusses genetic testing process, possible results and benefits and limitations of genetic testing options. Obtains informed consent from interested patients.Coordinate and research all insurance coverage for genetic testing for patients. Researching the best tests based on patient's insurance coverage. Prepare letters of medical necessity.Assists families in understanding genetic disorders in their families; probable course of the disorder, available management strategies, medical recommendations from the geneticist and recurrence risks.Documents in patient charts and develops follow-up recommendations for patient; documents cases and maintains appropriate records, ensuring confidentiality.Develops and presents educational and related programs, and available resources as appropriate.Coordinates and supports the execution of research protocol as needed; including recruitment and assessment of research subjects, provision of patient advice and support, and maintenance of research records.Performs associated administrative or clerical tasks, which may include special projects, correspondence, and program funding activities.Teaches and supervises training activities of residents and/or other health care professionals. Scholarly activities are supported and encouraged.Skills and QualificationsMaster's degree in Genetic Counseling from a program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC) required.Certification or eligible through the ABGC (American Board of Genetic Counseling)1-2 years of genetic counseling experience preferredComprehensive knowledge of human genetic disorders and birth defectsExcellent communication skills to distill complex information, results and diagnoses to patients in terms they can digest and ability to apply counseling methods and techniques.Ability to use independent and impartial judgment when man aging patient data and privacyAbility to apply counseling methods and techniques to help families to cope and manage potential outcomesKnowledge of community support services and funding agencies.Professionalism and emotional stability to handle difficult cases while providing families with proper care instructions and support recommendationsAbility to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or studentsExcellent, detailed writing skills to provide detailed information to the referring physicianManagement skills for supervising, advising and training clinical professionals and students in area of expertise.Strong organizational skills and the ability to develop and present workshops and programsBenefitsWe believe in the physical and mental well-being of our employees and are committed to offering comprehensive benefits that fit their personal needs.
