MongoDB Consultant (Part time - 10 hrs a week)

Job Description:

As a MongoDB consultant, your role will revolve around the upgrade of MongoDB clusters from version 2.6.X to either version 6.0 or 7.0, with a focus on on-premises environments. Your responsibilities will include:
  1. Upgrade Planning and Execution:
    • Develop a comprehensive upgrade plan for each MongoDB cluster, considering the specific requirements and dependencies.
    • Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule upgrade windows and minimize downtime.
    • Execute the upgrade process following best practices and ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  2. Risk Assessment and Mitigation:
    • Identify potential risks associated with the upgrade process, such as data loss, application compatibility issues, or performance degradation.
    • Implement strategies to mitigate risks and minimize the impact on production environments.
    • Conduct thorough testing and validation before proceeding with the upgrade to identify and address any potential issues proactively.
  3. Performance Optimization:
    • Optimize the performance of MongoDB clusters post-upgrade by tuning configurations, indexes, and queries.
    • Ensure scalability and efficiency of MongoDB deployments to meet current and future demands.
  4. Security and Compliance:
    • Review and enhance security measures to protect MongoDB data and infrastructure.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards, such as GDPR or HIPAA, throughout the upgrade process.
  5. Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:
    • Document all steps, configurations, and changes made during the upgrade process for future reference.
    • Provide training and knowledge transfer sessions to internal teams, empowering them to manage MongoDB environments effectively post-upgrade.
  6. Cluster Management and Monitoring:
    • Set up robust monitoring and alerting systems to track the health and performance of MongoDB clusters.
    • Implement backup and disaster recovery mechanisms to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.
  7. Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated with the latest MongoDB features, releases, and best practices.
    • Continuously assess and optimize MongoDB configurations and deployments to improve reliability, performance, and security.

In summary, as a MongoDB consultant, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing the upgrade of MongoDB clusters from version 2.6.X to either version 6.0 or 7.0 in on-premises environments.
