Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disneys Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers is responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects. WDI Master Planning manages the long-term development framework for sustainable growth of each resort and provides expertise to support new business opportunities. Our team provides data analytics, land planning, environmental, entitlement, infrastructure, and real estate development expertise to enable growth and preserve future flexibility for development and expansion of our parks and resorts across the globe. The team is part of the larger Global Creative Strategy Studio. We are seeking a collaborative Master Planning Principal, based in California, to lead and support complex planning and predevelopment efforts for one or more of our global portfolios.

This position will report to the Master Planning Studio Executive, and is located in Glendale, CA.

You Will:

Provide highly-specialized subject matter expertise and leadership (by initiative) in one of the following Master Planning areas: Land Planning, Urban Planning, Transportation & Infrastructure Planning, Environmental Planning & Permitting, Real Estate Development & Entitlements

Analyze specific development feasibility strategies for master planning phase projects within The Walt Disney Company global resorts and attractions portfolio with a particular focus on entitlements, land use/feasibility, urban planning and infrastructure planning

Lead in-house partners and external consultants on specific tasks to support land use/feasibility and infrastructure planning undertakings for new projects

Build and maintains relationships with planning consultants and recommends strategic partnerships to advance planning projects within each site

Partner with in-house and external creative, operational financial feasibility, legal and public relations teams

Manage environmental requirements of cities or regions domestically or internationally

Stay current with relevant planning trends and the understanding of the physical, financial and public relations implications of proposed development

Coordinate Walt Disney Imagineering and Portfolio Annual Operating Plan as it relates to real estate and infrastructure planning

Identify, hires and manages a broad range of external consulting resources

Maintain relationships with internal and external partners including facilities teams, local and State agencies, private development/real estate community, etc.

Provide ongoing HR compliance and administrative mentorship to the department leadership on intern recruiting, workforce/staffing and budgetary issues

Make decisions, relative to project site selection, appropriate hardware/software exploration while elevating issues to senior management executive level leadership

You will have:

7 years relevant experience

Experience with hiring and leading outside consultants, vendors and professional contractors

Experience working with local, regional and federal development entities

Preferred Qualifications:

10 years of relevant experience

Knowledge and experience in Planning, Design & Development projects

Experience with or education in sustainability and/or climate resiliency

Themed entertainment experience preferred

Membership, and active participation, in one or more professional organizations: AICP, ASLA, ULI, AIA, APA, SARA, NCARB, LEED

Education:

Bachelors degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, GeoDesign, Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Real Estate Development, Real Estate Finance, Business Administration

Preferred Education:

Advanced graduate degree in a related specialized field

The hiring range for this position in California is $135,000 to $181,100 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidates geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
