Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of Technical Services, the Desktop Architect is the lead of a team responsible for operating and maintaining the organization’s IT endpoint infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of endpoints throughout the organization. This includes thin clients, personal computers, mobile devices, and any device our customers use to perform their work. The Desktop Architect accomplishes these responsibilities by coordinating a team to design, implement and monitor endpoint performance, conduct testing, identify root causes of performance issues, and collect data to promote maximum security and reliability. The Desktop Architect chooses hardware based on requirements, validates configuration requirements of applications and designs workflows and processes in the endpoint environment.

System Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • All duties below would be the design of and/or the oversight of team members in the deployment of that design and process.
  • Oversees, plans and supports daily administration of the organization’s endpoints and mobile environments.
  • Validates application requirements for more secure and efficient ways to deploy them.
  • Reviews and validates hardware choices depending on the requirements from the organization.
  • Maintains hardware and software workflows working to improve and secure the environment.
  • Maintains and creates documentation to support all recommendations and configurations.
  • Monitors, plans and tests new hardware and current hardware for appropriate and secure use.
  • Configures server and storage devices according to appropriate security standards, monitors security measures in place, and resolves security issues as necessary.
  • Manages licenses for endpoint tools and software.
  • Works with the team to test patches and upgrades for viability in the environment across multiple areas.
  • Supports the infrastructure team with Help Desk tickets related to endpoints and mobile devices.
  • Evaluates expansions or enhancements by studying workload and capacity of the endpoint environment.
  • Maintain, plan and test backup and disaster recovery plans for endpoints throughout the organization.
  • Utilize logical problem solving to find creative solutions to problems in the environment on a broad scale.
  • Supports help desk staff with tickets related to domain issues.
  • Works with an automation mind set. Proven expertise in the use and creation of PowerShell scripts.
  • Work with stakeholders and other technical teams to collect business and technical requirements and design / deliver enterprise level solutions.
  • Create and update technical documentation of operating procedures as needed.
  • Collaborates and communicates with architects with internal departments and vendor partners.
  • Own and lead discussions in business and technical information technology solution implementations, upgrades, enhancement and conversions. Recommends solutions as appropriate.
  • Strong understanding of architecting and configuring Microsoft Windows OS technology including AD Forests, Domains, Trusts, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and Organizational Units.
  • Oversees and supports daily administration of the organization’s backup and recovery environment.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to improve established policies, procedures, and/or methodologies.
  • Provides the post recovery testing documentation processes to maintain relevant, standard and consistent submissions to requesting parties for endpoints.
  • Provide subject matter expertise for assessing, planning and testing endpoint options for the organization and specific technology platforms.
  • Function as contact person between the different departments, facilities, vendors and partners for our endpoint infrastructure.
  • Understand disaster recovery plan frameworks based on accepted industry standards.
  • Supports help desk staff with tickets related to endpoint computing and deployment of complex applications and workflows.
  • Evaluates expansions or enhancements by studying workload and capacity of the organizations endpoint computing environment.
  • Oversee and advises the creation of documentation of systems based on technical input.
  • Audit and review plans and documents for accuracy.
  • Create and conduct simulation/tabletop exercises based on plan information.
  • Participate in the planning and oversight of disaster recovery exercises to verify recovery capabilities of established plans.
  • Understand the implications and dependencies of plan activation in both testing and actual recovery scenarios
  • Identify and drive the remediation of technical gaps impeding recovery.
  • Document, track and report on testing incidents to improve workflows and capabilities of the endpoint environment.
  • Plan and perform large scale testing/exercise support.
  • Designs, manages and improves the organizations endpoint management tools.
  • Plans, audits and tests the deployment of the monthly updates to the endpoint operating system fleet.
Requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, networking, or related IT field, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Relevant certification (MCSE, MCSA, Network+, CompTIA A+, Security+) is preferred.
Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in managing endpoints and IT infrastructure is required.
  • Hospital or healthcare experience is preferred.

  • Excellent network analysis fundamentals.

  • Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal are required.
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills needed for working with clinicians and coworkers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively about complex matters with others who have varying levels of education.
  • Ability to work under pressure and on multiple projects at once.
  • Ability to meet aggressive deadlines.
  • Advanced skill level with MS Office.
  • Physical demands/working conditions:

    Ability to push/pull objects less than 35 pounds; perform simple manipulative skills such as writing, collating, and grasping objects; perform tasks that require eye-hand coordination such as operating computers and keyboarding skills; perform gross motor coordination such as reaching, turning, and moving about; be mobile and move from one place to another; hearing normal sounds with some background noise; hearing normal sounds with some background noise, perform moderately difficult manipulative skills; see objects closely.
