EDUCATIONAL TECHNICIAN II

REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Special Education Administrator.

QUALIFICATION DESIRED:
  1. Two (2) years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 60 hours of approved study in an educationally related field, or for vocation education, two (2) years paid applied employment within the field of assignment.
  2. Education Technician II Authorization and CHRC Approval Certificates.
  3. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos, and to write simple correspondence.
  4. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents and/or staff.
  5. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers,
    common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform basic arithmetical calculations.
  6. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but basic written or oral instructions.
  7. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  8. Ability to operate computers and photocopying machines.
  9. Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  10. Ability to develop effective relationships with students, staff and the school community.
  11. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  12. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
  13. Works directly with ABELS teaching staff to support the high school alternative education program.
WORK YEAR: School year, per Educational Technician Bargaining Agreement.

JOB GOALS: To assist professional educators with the instruction of assigned students in order to support them to become more independent in their educational programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Meets with the teacher or appropriate content specialist and receives instructions/directions on a regular basis. It is recommended that meetings be held on a daily basis.
  2. Performs short-term instruction and classroom management activities under the direct supervision of the teacher or appropriate content specialist.
  3. Conducts one-on-one or small group instruction for students with indirect professional supervision.
  4. Participates in ongoing in-service training in the specialty area of employment.
  1. Reviews and reinforces learning previously introduced by the classroom teacher or appropriate content specialist.
  2. Assists in drill or practice activities.
  3. Performs non-instructional, non-evaluative duties under general administrative supervision.
  4. Assists in the preparation of instructional materials.
  5. Provides classroom management functions.
  6. Introduces new learning pre-planned in collaboration with the classroom teacher or appropriate content specialist.
  7. Performs clerical work as may be requested by immediate supervisor(s).
  8. Attends meetings as requested by supervisor(s).
  9. Assists in the preparation of annual individual student progress and program reports as requested.
  10. Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.
