Job Description

Performs various non-invasive diagnostic tests on patients as directed by the Cardiologist, such as, electrocardiograms (ECG's), stress tests and holter recordings as stipulated by the physician in accordance with departmental procedures/protocols.
Explains procedures to patients to help eliminate concerns. Interviews patients to obtain required medical information to ensure safety during procedures.
Applies 24-hour holter recordings by placing electrodes on appropriate areas of the patient's body, makes proper adjustments to ECG equipment including baseline adjustments and changes to the placement of electrodes on the patient in order to obtain the best recording as required
Identifies and classifies arrhythmias. Advises the physician of irregular or acute heart arrhythmias. Maintains patient medical records.
Operates and maintains cardiology equipment in accordance with standard operational procedures. Cleans and sterilizes electrodes and other cardiology equipment according to policies and procedures.
Recognizes and responds to emergency situations by using CPR or contacting appropriate medical personnel.
Assists the receptionist and other support staff with routine office duties. Answers telephones, assists or directs callers. Schedules patients for cardiology procedures.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Course work in Biology, Chemistry or Physics is required.
CPR certification is required.
One year health care experience, assisting with ECG's, the application of holter monitors, treadmill operations, or equivalent, is required.
General knowledge various routine diagnostic cardiology testing procedures, medical terminology is required. Knowledge of cardiology equipment, such as, ECG's, stress system, scanning equipment, holter recordings, treadmills and blood pressure cuffs.
