Stark Parks is looking for a student working toward a degree in parks and recreation, forestry, environmental education or working toward a certification as a naturalist who is interested in gaining experience in teaching, program development, and outdoor recreation to a wide range of ages. Successful candidates will assist/lead hikes, outdoor programs and activities, such as kayaking, SUP.

Start Date(s):

Internship periods can be based on your availability...
•Spring (March 1 - May 31)
•Summer (June 1 - August 31)
•Fall (September 1 - October 31)

Time Commitment:

12 hours/week, some weekends and evenings. Hours and days will vary. This will be determined by the Education & Programs Manager.

Compensation:

This is a non-paid, volunteer position for anyone interested in gaining experience in this field while sharing their love and excitement of the outdoors with others.

Supervision:

The Naturalist Intern will report to the Education & Programming Manager

Knowledge, Skills:

The naturalist intern's primary responsibility is to support the Education Staff and in turn will gain knowledge in the following areas...
•Will learn about the flora and fauna of the Great Lakes region
•Assisting and Teaching Outdoor Education programs in the field and in classrooms
•Public Speaking
•Writing & Program Development
•Organizational skills, verbal communication, problem-solving, and conflict management

Working Conditions:

As typical with this type of work, conditions vary with the environment, weather and as other circumstances warrant. Driver's license and insurance is required.
