Pharmacy Tech II (PT) NCPS - Norton, VA Job ID: 004EID NORTON COMMUNITY HOSPITAL Pharmacy - Ballad Health Pharmacy Norton Part-time No Benefits (scheduled Job Description SCOPE OF POSITIONThe Pharmacy Technician, working under the supervision and instruction of a licensed Pharmacist, performs procedures and duties relating to the service's Scope of Care. For successful job performance, the Pharmacy Technician should be flexible and show keen attention to detail, exhibit initiative and be willing to work as part of a team. In addition, this individual should be cooperative and willing to cross train to fill in for other employees as necessary. The technician must be able to provide services as appropriate (under the direct supervision of a pharmacist) to meet the needs of neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient age groups served.Skills/functionalities/assignments performed by the Level II technician can include but are not limited to three months or more pharmacy experience as well as competency training in the following:Automated Dispensing System Skills/SupportControlled Substance Handling/Dispensing ProcessesPrepacking & unit-dosing medicationsNonsterile compoundingMedication transport and deliveriesOther institutional technologies such as tube station usage, medication carousel, etc (if applicable to facility)Unit InspectionsCrash care replacementThe employee may be expected to be cross-trained for provision of services at any of the facilities throughout the systemREPORTING RELATIONSHIPSee Table of Organization.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEThis individual should possess basic math and typing skills and must possess attention to detail and the ability to read and follow written instructions. The pharmacy technician should demonstrate proficient computer skills.Institutional pharmacy experience is highly desirable, while retail pharmacy experience may be beneficial. General institutional/health care experience may be helpful in the training of a pharmacy technician. Preference will be given to trained institutional pharmacy technicians, those individuals who have completed pharmacy technician training courses, and/or those who have obtained (National) Certified Pharmacy Technician status. Six months of previous experience in another institution, retail or as a Pharmacy Tech 1 required.Movement into the Level II position from a Level I position requires 1) completion of Pharmacy Services IV Admixture Sign-Off Procedures and demonstration of appropriate competencies and/or 2) demonstrated high level competencies in automated dispensing system functions and support. The new hire Pharmacy Technician may not be eligible for the Level II position until successful completion of six to twelve months in the Level I position based on Pharmacy Services as well as HR policies. Transfer into a technician position from another Pharmacy Services position or from a position in another department must meet the minimum six to twelve month time frame in Level I before movement into Level II can occur (completion of appropriate IV Admixtures sign-offs/competencies or enhanced automated dispensing system training and activities required before move to Level II). Level I technicians with no previous IV experience will generally be in fulltime position(s) to be considered for IV Admixture training/move to a Level II position. (Exceptions to this could be made based on management's assessment of technician's skills and at management's discretion.)Initial hire at Level II will be considered when: Candidate was previously-employed Level II or Level III technician with acceptable IV Admixture performance. Candidate presents with > than or = to 1 years of equivalent IV admixture experience or automated dispensing system experience and support. (Depth of previous experience will be scrutinized/compared to insure equivalency.) Candidate presents with previous specialized experience which is equivalent to a current service or program and meets an organizational need (Ex, previous experience with Automated Dispensing System Administrative Support or Chemotherapy Preparation). Final decision for hire at Level II will be at the discretion of Pharmacy Services Management.Valid and active Pharmacy Tech licensure in appropriate stateIn Virginia - must be enrolled in a program and pass the Board of VA exam within 9 months of hire and register by either passing the VA exam or the national PTCB.In Tennessee - must register with the State of TN within 3 months of hire.Controlled Substance Diversion Training and Hazardous Drug Management training must be completed within 30 days of hire and annually Requirements No additional requirements from any stated in the above description.
