Equal Opportunity Employer & Affirmative Action Employer of Protected Veterans and Individuals with DisabilitiesGeneral Summary:The Plumber is responsible for installing, repairing,and maintaining pipes, fixtures and other plumbing used for water distributionand waste water disposal in residential, commercial and industrial buildings.Essential Duties andResponsibilities:Plumbers will perform the following functions in their dailyroutine;Install and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of heating, water,and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes. Study building plans and working drawings to determine work aidsrequired and sequence of installations. Inspect structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided toprevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe.Locates and marks position of pipe and pipe connections andpassage holes for pipes in walls and floors and underground, using ruler,spirit level, plumb bob and other equipment. Cut openings in walls and floors to accommodate pipe andpipefittings, using hand tools and power tools.Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, andpipe-threading machine. Bends pipe to required angle by use of pipe-bending machine or byplacing pipe over block and bending it by hand. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed ofmetals, such as iron, steel, brass and lead, and nonmetals, such as glass,vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools. Joins pipe by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plasticsolvent, and calks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges todetermine whether system is leaking. Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures,such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbagedisposal units, dishwashers, and water softeners. Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers in leakyfaucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. May weld holding fixtures to steel structuralmembers. Maintain and/or test backflow prevention devices.May assist other trades in basic carpentry and other basicconstruction/maintenance tasks. May direct and coordinate activities of other workers inperforming tasks directly related to operating and maintaining the system orsystems. Performs routine to general maintenance services includingpainting, equipment repair, grounds keeping, and snow removal. Performs repairs on a variety of facility systems such asmechanical, electrical, building systems, and other critical systems. Since Plumbers, usually work on their own, it is vital they beself-motivated, hardworking, and dependable.Maintainingcurrent plumber license or identification card to meet governmentalregulations.Maintaina safe and secure working environment. Maintainand create Activity Hazard AnalysisKeeprecords of all maintenance and repair work conducted.Assistothers as part of the maintenance team as required.Perform other duties as assigned which may includeSafety and Quality Control which may require additional training.Knowledge, Experience and SkillRequirements:Must hold a current journeyman plumber State License or havepassed the Journeyman Plumber exam in accordance with Nebraska Staterequirements (www.nebraska.gov). At least three (3) years of experience in healthcare facilityWork experience will be verified by copies of current licensesfrom other jurisdictions or letters from present or past employers or copies ofW-2 earning tax statements. Knowledge, Experience andSkill Requirements cont.Ability to read and interpretblueprints, diagrams, schematics, and job specifications. Ability to communicate effectively with various departments in order tocoordinate repairs.Must be able to passbackgroundMusthave Valid Driver License and maintain a good driving record.Working Conditions:Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop andkneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time,constant arm extensions.Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold,noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable.
