POSITION SUMMARY: The Occupational Therapist Assistant is an integral member of the Thearpy team in administering and implementing the therapeutic services designed to help patients regain their optimal level of function in meaningful daily activities including self care, leisure and work. Assists in implementing high quality care and services for patients and caregivers thru general activity programs and specific treatment programs as directed by the Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapist Assistant will be under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist and is responsible to Treatment Center manager.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: '

Professionalism: Represents GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties with patients, physicians, nurses and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct. Participates in the Performance Improvement Process. Maintains quality and efficiency standards as set by the immediate supervisor and makes recommendations for improvements. Participates in activities which promote professional growth and self-development. Attends pertinent inservices, departmental and other meetings as requested by immediate supervisor.

Problem Solving/Critical Thinking: Identifies work-related problems with possible solutions and implements solution(s) when appropriate. Maintains a constant awareness of the legal aspects of position and demonstrates this in decisions related to job performance issues. Maintains an in-depth knowledge of Occupational Therapy principles, practices, standards, and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with GSHCS and the hospitals policies and procedures.

Safety: Maintains and demonstrates a thorough knowledge of safety policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans. Maintains a safe environment for patients, guests, and staff. Maintains confidentially of patient information.

Communications: Able to meet and verbally communicate with publics in positive and professional way. Is skillful in use of the written word and is able to convey meaning effectively in print. Is timely in communications with Occupational Therapist both written and verbal to ensure high high quality patient care and safety. Is timely, thorough and accurate in documentation.

Healing Health Care: Establishes a therapeutic presence by using People-Centered Team skills of differentiation, compassionate listening, and knowledge of the change/transition process in situations involving emotions, life/death transition, and/or conflict. Maintains harmonious and cooperative relations with GSHCS physicians and co-workers. Promotes healing by maintaining a peaceful, orderly, and clean environment. Supports GSHCS vision, values, success factors, and code of conduct. Performs other related work as directed by immediate supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Associate degree from an accredited school of occupational therapy. CERTIFICATION: Hold an AOTCB certificate for Occupational Therapy Assistants

LICENSE: Oregon COTA License required; valid drivers license and proof of vehicle insurance.

EXPERIENCE: One to five years of previous work experience desired, with previous Inpatient and Outpatient experience preferred. Must relate well with others.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess sound understanding of occupational therapy skills and activities management, Interpersonal/human relations skills, strong verbal and writing skills and the knowledge and ability to relate positively to various publics. Familiarity with health care and issues relevant to health care.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Good general health. Must be able to bend, stoop, reach and occasionally lift 100 pounds or more. Frequent sitting and/or standing throughout work shift required. Occasionaly lifts supplies/equipment. Manual dexterity and mobility required. Ability to operate office equipment and perform general office duties.

OTHER: Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with culturally diverse population.Working Conditions: Inside and outside environment, not always protected from the weather temperature changes. Inside environmental changes are mainly those inside patient homes. Those can include temperature variations, smoke, unclean homes, various sizes and types of pets, and structural faults/barriers. Subject to frequent exposure to infection, contagious disease, and hazardous materials and equipment. Subject to combative patients, dysfunctional families and varying relationships. Variable noise levels. Also subject to rapid pace, multiple stimuli, unpredictable environment, and critical situations.
