DescriptionJOB SUMMARYAssists the pharmacist by filling physician orders for medications and mixes IV admixture solutions as required. Generates labels, prepares and files charge slips and performs other related duties. Maintain drug inventory on all nursing units and in pharmacy. Reports to Pharmacy Director. Non-Exempt position.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Delivers drugs and solutions to patient care units. Prepares intravenous solutions and admixtures. Prepare, package, or label a prescription drug according to a medication order if a licensed nurse or practitioner verifies the accuracy of the order before administration of the drug to the patient. Fills a medication cart used in the hospital Distributes routine orders for stock supplies to patient care areas and restock the Pyxis machines. Maintains inventory of supplies and reorders as needed. Processes records of medications and supplies dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges and either enters them into the computer or forwards them to Data Processing. Processes orders, receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies and scans all medications into Meditech. Assists the pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly Calculates figures and amounts relating to dosage calculations when filing various prescriptions ranging from the newborn to the elderly populations. Process invoices for accounting. Restocks Pyxis as needed, and generates related reports. Disposes hazardous and medical waste following proper protocols and procedures.POSITION REQUIREMENTSMinimum Education High School diploma equivalent required. Texas Board of Pharmacy Technician Certification required.Required SkillsMust possess superior ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service. Must possess high degree of organization and be able to multi-task efficiently and effectively.Basic computer knowledge required, including Microsoft Office and Outlook. FUNCTIONAL DEMANDSFunctional Job Requirements: Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
