A person needs to be local in Akron and needs to be available for on call on weekends as needed.

Job Summary:

As a Datacenter Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and security of our datacenter infrastructure. You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, networking equipment, and facilities within the datacenter environment. This role demands strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

Datacenter Operations:

  • Monitor and maintain the health and uptime of datacenter infrastructure.
  • Perform routine hardware and software upgrades, repairs, and replacements.
  • Manage power and cooling systems to ensure efficient operation.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all equipment and assets.
Networking and Connectivity:
  • Configure and troubleshoot network switches, routers, and firewalls.
  • Ensure redundancy and high availability of network connections.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to optimize network performance.
Server Management:
  • Install, configure, and manage server hardware and operating systems.
  • Implement and maintain server virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Monitor server performance and resource utilization.
Security and Compliance:
  • Implement and enforce datacenter security policies and access controls.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO 27001).
Backup and Disaster Recovery:
  • Develop and maintain data backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Test and validate backup and recovery processes regularly.
  • Troubleshoot data loss or system failures and restore services swiftly.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain detailed documentation of datacenter configurations and procedures.
  • Generate reports on datacenter performance, capacity, and trends.
  • Provide documentation for audits and compliance reviews.
Collaboration and Communication:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, facilities, and security.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and service providers.
  • Assist in planning and executing datacenter-related projects.
Emergency Response:
  • Be on-call to respond to datacenter emergencies and incidents.
  • Participate in disaster recovery drills and exercises.
