Department: Burn & Wound Services

Position Summary: The inpatient Registered Nurse will work within the healthcare team to provide direct nursing care to patients with burn and wound injuries. This role involves delivering safe care, working with care plans, performing special tests/procedures, administering medications, and helping build a positive work environment.

  • Patient Care: The inpatient Registered Nurse will provide direct, safe care to assigned patients and ensure medical records contain necessary information
  • Policies: The inpatient Registered Nurse will work within Hospitals, Nursing division and departmental policies
  • Care Plans: The inpatient Registered Nurse will work in collaboration with the healthcare team, implement and document individualized care plans incorporating age-specific considerations, including discharge planning and patient/family teaching
  • Tests and Procedures: The inpatient Registered Nurse will assist with special tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent has been obtained
  • Participation: The inpatient Registered Nurse will participate in orientation; upon successful completion of preceptor training assume precepting and evaluation responsibilities of new personnel
  • Emergency Measures: The inpatient Registered Nurse will assist with or institute emergency measures for sudden, adverse developments in patients
  • Medical Records: The inpatient Registered Nurse will ensure that patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Inquiries: The inpatient Registered Nurse will answer telephones and triage calls as per departmental policy
  • Medication: The inpatient Registered Nurse will administer medication, including IV medication, and communicate clinical findings
  • Environment: The inpatient Registered Nurse will maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families according to Hospitals standards
  • Development: The inpatient Registered Nurse will enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, and attending in-services, meetings, and workshops
  • Patient Safety: The inpatient Registered Nurse will follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols, identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk, and report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner. Encouraging patients to participate in their own care will also be a key responsibility

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing,Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate, or Program Graduate
  • 1 year of inpatient experience
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
  • RN in NM or as allowed by reciprocal agreement by NM
  • Nationally Certified in area of specialty (Nonessential)
  • PALS, TNCC and/or ENPC (Nonessential)
  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo (Nonessential)

Physical Conditions: Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Working conditions: Signature Hazard: Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE.
