Job Description

The Phlebotomist is responsible for accurately collecting specimens for provider ordered lab tests.

Interpretation and processing of lab orders
  • Interpret, verify and carry out physician/provider lab orders.
  • Will be able to comfortably use Laboratory Information System and Electronic Medical Record.
  • Interpret and apply reference laboratory specimen requirements.
Specimen Collection
  • Will be proficient in capillary, venous and arterial blood collection.
  • Will be knowledgeable in proper specimen collection; to include specimen requirements, integrity of specimen, isolation precautions, timed blood draws, and aseptic technique.
  • Understand the importance of patient identification and correct specimen labeling.
  • Will obtain or collect body fluids, tissue and other substances to aid the laboratory in determining normal and abnormal findings.
  • Alomere Health Laboratory phlebotomists may be certified to perform Urine Drug Screen collections and Breath Alcohol Testing.
  • Point of Care Testing as trained per facility.
Patient Interaction
  • Will create an atmosphere of trust and confidence with patients while explaining and performing procedures.
  • Able to give instructions clearly and accurately for patient collected specimens.
  • Maintain an environment of privacy, safety and integrity for all patients, at all times.
Other Duties
  • Performs other duties as requested.
  • Participates in departmental or organizational meetings and trainings.
  • Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to the position.
Education, Experience & Skills
  • Required High School education or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.


License, Registration and/or Certification

Phlebotomy Certification preferred.
